PlayStation press release breaks down the real price of consoles

Jan 7th 2009 11:55PM (Joystiq Playstation)
The point is that consumers don't pay a lot of attention. MS sells their console for $200 initially, which looks like an awesome value, almost an impulse buy. Once you've dropped the $200, it's gone, and spending another $100 in a couple of weeks for an HD doesn't seem as bad as spending $300 all at once.

They do the same thing with MS points and 360 Arcade Games. SSF2HD Remix costs something like 1200 MS points, while Sony spells it out as $15. Consumers are tricked into not knowing how much they're actually spending, and thus are more likely to buy the product.

Way to go, Sony.

Dyack: Valkyrie scene faster than load times, corpse runs

Aug 27th 2008 12:41PM (Joystiq Xbox)
You know, it's not the valkyrie animation that kills me about this game. My big problem came after playing it for an hour and a half, enjoying myself quite thoroughly, and then getting frozen in purgatory while the game auto-saved at the beginning of the second level. Now, I'd either need to start all over, or not play anymore. I'm waiting to see how I feel in a couple of days.
