Jun 23rd 2009 6:32PM (Joystiq)Personally, as an ex-WOW player, I'm tired of going through sterile, premade environments with nothing unique or organic to do. Preplanned content and stories can only last so long, and sooner or later, they will inevitably lose their luster.
On the other hand, in a game like APB or EVE (which I don't play for a number of reasons but appreciate the idea and execution), the players and what they choose to do are the story.
As history has shown, the human equation is one that can never be fully predicted, and in a game where players and their decisions drive the flow of the game, you can be sure that you won't tire of the game as long as the game itself is solidly designed -- in fact, a vibrant playerbase has been enough to keep many mediocre games alive when they should otherwise be dead -- and APB looks to be anything but mediocre.
If you enjoy an endless achievement treadmill in place of actual meaningful gameplay, WOW's always out there for you. If you prefer a tightly plotted, planned out story made for you to go through, SW:TOR's not too far off on the horizon (and I'm curious about it too).
WOW, WAR, LOTRO, and all the other "safe bet" MMOs aren't going anywhere anytime soon, and are always out there if you want them. Please, don't try and force something new and interesting like APB into the same old mold.
