Red Cross irked by video game portrayal

Feb 9th 2006 6:02PM (Joystiq)
I personally know the Volunteer Services Director of a particular chapter, and she has told me that the Red Cross logo is actually viewed as a religious symbol in some parts of the world and is a sign of refuge because impartiality and neutrality are part of Red Cross' fundamental principles. The others are humanity, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. If their logo were being portrayed in ways that goes against what they stand for, then it's not surprising that they would react like so.

They have also asked Sony Pictures to remove the Red Cross logo from Spider-Man 2 when it went to DVD (in the scene where Doc Ock exits the hospital). The Red Cross isn't just one of those universal symbols that means "help". They do a lot more than that.

Take-Two gets a new shareholder: Jack Thompson

"What's next, Paul, a game in which players can practice flying commercial jetliners into the World Trade Towers? Oh, I forgot. Microsoft already did that."

Two words: slippery slope. And that's all I'll say because otherwise I'll get too angry and ranty.
