Smart AI might be a stretch, how about grand campaign AI that actually works? Since that is like 50% of the game? I mean, I'd settle for that. Last time I played Empires, you couldn't lose if you played as Great Britain, because the AI didn't know how to transport armies via ship.
How can you let a war game out where you can't lose?
The most redeeming aspect of GRiD was it's absolutely terrific replay system.
I thought Shift would be yet another joke, but it is actually a really good game. Sure, the physics model was neutered (it's a shame, because the developer, Slightly Mad, has plenty of experience with race sims), but I think the brightest spot was the cockpit view. They looked nice, sure, but that's not the best part. The shift and steering animations, the ability to look around the cockpit, the exaggerated vibrations and screen and controller shake really creates a far more engrossing experience.
The polar opposite to the NFS cockpit view was the Forza 3 cockpit view, which seemed to me like an afterthought: the plasticky, artificial textures and the lack of shift animations and cockpit look-around make for a fairly sterile experience.
Still, Forza 3 is a more fleshed out game, but I feel a lot of it is carry over from Forza 2. Though the menu system has been totally revamped for Forza 3, I feel like very few things actually changed. Sure, new tracks, slight upgrade to the paintshop, and the better-than-nothing cockpit view, but I there really are only a handful of new cars and absolutely no new aero upgrades, something I had really wished Turn10 would work on. Most importantly, after seeing the immersion a realistic cockpit view can provide (Shift), I feel like that would've really pushed Forza 3 over the edge.
Anyway, ideally, we'd have Forza 3 with Shift's cockpit view. Forza 3 is a good game, but I definitely think it was way too over-hyped for what it is. Hopefully GT5 can deliver more.
You buy the MacBook because it's a really nice laptop. As a result of your purchase, you purchase another, far worse laptop, such that you can avoid using the MacBook. That's quite a strategy there.
