Asking whether or not something is art is completely useless. If it is presented as art, then invariably it is. Whether or not a person considers is art is meaningless. There are, however, ways of critiquing the quality of art, subjective as they may be.
Personally I would considering this a little lower than mediocre art. Something comparable to a Thomas Kinkade or country music. Stylistically, everthing is cohesive and looks generally nice, but everything else is pretty trivial. As many have pointed out, the gameplay is extremely lacking. The addition of intriguing gameplay would have made it all the more interesting, and thus more relevant. I feel this piece would have been much better suited to just a simple visual piece rather than an interactive one.
Hahaha, that is a sweet, sweet picture of Reggie! As for "Shipped" meaning "manufactured", that's not how I read it. It seems like they shipped them all before December 31st, just not all of them made it to retail by the 31st. But, really, whatever. Either way they're doing all right.
Is it wrong that I almost cried after watching these?? hehe. I said ALMOST.
Also, about the SoTC debate, appropriation is a very common and even integral aspect of art. It's when something is flat out copied for lack of an original idea that things turn ugly. TP doesn't seem to be lacking in originality.
I might be inclined to chalk this one up as just poor ability on Matt's part. In the Iwata Asks interview series they clearly state that tennis can detect such things as velocity, angle, and spin. Perhaps when you're so used to pushing buttons to make something happen it takes some getting used to.
Having said that, I've never played Wii Sports so I don't really know. Since it's free, I'm sure I'll give it a shot and just wait to see how I like it.
Props to Microsoft for really utilizing XBL to its full potential. I just hope Nintendo and Sony get a clue about all the good things one can do with a great online service.
Considering that the whole point of the Wii is to reach out beyond its fanboy base, and many of the positive reactions gamers and "non-gamers" alike have had to the Wii, I'm going to respectfully disagree with you.
11 million does seem like an overly optimistic number, however if that means I'll have the freedom to just pop over to the store after work on launch day to pick one up, without waiting in lines, I'm all for it.
If true this would be a very good thing for Nintendo as the market they are trying to expand to isn't the market camps out in front of game stores on launch day.

Is it art? Yes.
Is it good? Not really.
I hope some of that made sense...
