In the early days of Big Brother UK, my sister and I would recreate the house and housemates in the Sims. We would only play the game when the show was on and both of us had to be present for decisions to be made. Thinking back it was actually far more enjoyable than this description implies.
I'm a young guy but every PC Game I have ever bought has been new, not because I wanted to support the developer, but because they required an activation code that was included in new products.
The PC game retail products have had the same tactic in place since I can remember that people are complaining about the console game producers using now. You can't trade in PC games because this activation code has been used and the game is no longer the same value so the game store don't want it, thus there is a limited used PC games market and forces people to buy new copies which will give the developer the deserved cut of the sale that a used sale wouldn't.
The console producers want to ruin the used game market to make more money, and ultimately have you buying new copies instead just like the PC producers already have you.
I'll throw my 2 cents into the ring. Being in a GAME store has always been a more pleasant experience than Gamestop. The Gamestops in Belfast always seemed cluttered with cardboard cutouts making it nearly impossible to navigate through the door. I'm pretty sure the light was permanently off and it had a real sterotypical "gamer" feel. GAME on the hand has a very open layout, bright and inviting. Everything is easy to find and they do price competitively with HMV (FUN FACT: The main GAME store is actually right beside HMV http://g.co/maps/k2whw ). Gamestop had the upper hand in trade-in values compared to GAME and the staff were awesome, but the actual store was kind of the problem.
Sorry, but I'm actually in a similar situation as you. Very interested in trying out the Hydra, but not ready to buy one as I don't play many PC games. I tried looking for it at PAX Prime, but was pre-occupied by other things.
This game looks like it would work well with the Razor Hydra controller that the Portal 2 DLC uses. Anyway I'll probably pick up this game at some point looks pretty fun.
But that does happen in the film industry. IGF is more like a film festival, such as Sundance or Cannes, rather than the Oscars which is more akin to the British Academy Video Game Awards.
Pulp Fiction was awarded the Palme d'Or at Cannes 6 months before it's general release.
Hey guys I'm actually really psyched for this Season Of Content. A entire Season Of Content, wherein we will gradually be feed content throughout the season. SEASON. OF. CONTENT. Picture this, content delivered to YOU throughtout the length of time a TV season would be aired.
Just to reiterate to people this is a SEASON OF CONTENT. Not an episode of content, not a one off christmas special of content, not even a 3-part miniseries of content, but a full blown SEASON OF CONTENT
I was going to post a long comment on my views of this gen, but you have pretty much summed it up. I just through this in; I believe the PS3 will end up outselling the 360 when all is said and done this generation, but there is no denying Sony didn't perform as well as they probably should have, which is evident in their drop in marketshare.
I feel MS are primed to become the top dog next gen with all the foundations they are putting into place at the end of this gen, and Sony are going to be the underdogs. But Sony blew away the competition once already, they can surely do it again.
