PAX 2011: Guild Wars 2 to allow more open guild membership

Aug 29th 2011 9:05PM (Massively)
@Eamil

which is something they need to fix.

If i login to Guild A. And no one is currently online.

I'm gonna jump to Guild B because theres some people in there.

Then Person 2 jumps into Guild A. See's no ones online. So they too jump into there own Guild B or C.

So because at some point Guild A had no members online, Everyone is jumping to another guild that currently has someone online.

With the only way of knowing if those people are truly online is to have them on your friends list.

They want them to be like distinct social groups. Yet being able to only see 1 at a time kills that.

They should make it so that you Represent say Guild C(because thats who you want to represent at the time).

But You can turn Guilds A,B,D,G,I's chat channels on. While turning Guild E,F,H,J off.

That way if your representing C and someone in G says Anyone in interested in running Catacombs. anyone in that guild with the chat channel turned on at that time can say yeah ill join in. regardless if they are currently representing Another Guild or not

The Daily Grind: Are appearance tabs essential?

Aug 23rd 2011 6:40PM (Massively)
@Irem

Yeah the dwindling playebase almost makes me feel like they have been holding onto certain features.

So that they have preventative measure's for when the numbers drop.

Right sir we finished appearance tabs, do we include it with cataclysm.

No, We'll wait till they look like they want to leave and we'll provide them with a tiny incentive to stay.

But sir everyother MMO has this feature now. We'd be stupid not to use it.

I said No, they'll get it when we want to give it to them, not because they want it

only message that SWTOR succeeding will send is yes make a copy of WoW. Just make sure it's an expensive copy. And you've added some other things

The waters are also muddied by the fact that it is a star wars game.

Guild Wars 2's crafting system detailed and demonstrated

@DarkWalker

Was gonna say exactly that.

I don't know anyone who doesn't have a crafting alt.

And the economy will still be fine since there will still be people who want to buy materials instead of foraging for themselves

The Daily Grind: What was the juiciest reveal at Gamescom?

@SgtBaker1234556

yeah but considering they have had 6+ years to crate something akin to the transmogrifier.

And not only do they start releasing it now.

they essentially ripped the name right off the plans GW2 had to have the stuff in at launch. Which to me doesn't really seem like they are leading the pack. Most other MMO's have had appearance choice for a long time.

They are adding things like this not because it benefits the game but because this way when things like SWTOR and GW2 launch some of the features like customised appearance won't be all shiny and new because they have headed it off

@Ren54

Ren54 so it's supposed to revolutioonize the genre.

And your sitting here going

"Where are my genre tropes like end game gear grinding content"

That only gets added to appease the HC players who say they will leaves if they don't get to something new to grind out every 3 months.

While the rest of the player base's subscription fees go towards satiating there demands

Single-player games will be dead in three years, says industry analyst

@Bladerunner83

And this is why the article is poor.

He's not saying everything will be an MMO.

He's Saying that everything will have some sort of connectivity with other players.

whether it's direct competition/cooperation with another player.

Or whether the game will implement a system like that in Demon souls which allows other players to leave notes, like "Caution, Ahead lies Booby trap"

@diamount

ME is adding MP in ME3.

and i wouldn't be too surprised if DA done the same after the atrocity that was DA2

Single-player games will be dead in three years, says industry analyst

Aug 17th 2011 2:00PM (Massively)
yeah this article is misinterpreting his words.

essentially what he is saying is that no game will be entirely solitary.

He sights Demon Souls

A game which realistically had a miniscule MP component and one that no longer exists as it's no longer hosted.

The MP consisted of bloodstain hints which either left a message or showed someone else's ghost right before they died in an upcoming section

He's not saying that everything will be an MMO.

He's saying the the games like Fallout NV, DAO won't be strictly singleplayer affairs.

Mass effect 3 would be an example of this as would bioshock 2. Where a routinely Singleplayer game has Multiplayer added onto it.

personally i think this is the wrong way to go about things especially as most companies see it as a form of user accepted anti piracy.

We know you could pirate our singleplayer game but now you'll be missing out on our shiny new MP component if you do so
