Wii and PS3 sales gap shrinking in Japan

Nov 2nd 2007 12:43PM (Joystiq)
The 360 will never do well is Japan, which is why I wonder Microsoft doesn't seriously discount the unit there in the effort to grow their marketshare and hope to recoup revenue later in software licensing.

As far as monthly sales of PS3 getting closer to the Wii, Nintendo still has a sizable lead there, and in the rest of the world. It's easy to look at numbers in a limited form, but drawing any real conclusion from that is going to be questionable.

I'm sure PS3 sales will improve with the 40GB model for certain through the holiday, but beyond that is still unknown. And I'm not sure Sony has hit a price point that the mainstream will accept. It's still more of a high-end purchase.

Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player: $100, this Friday, Wal-Mart

Nov 2nd 2007 10:47AM (Engadget HD)
I scoped out our WalMart yesterday and they had 10 units. For some reason I thought they opened at 8am, and arrived about 7:15, by then 7 players had already been sold.

I'm so happy that I was able to get one though.

Silicon Knights' suit continues, Epic motion denied

Nov 1st 2007 6:28PM (Joystiq)
"Silicon Knights alleges that Epic used the money licensing the Unreal Engine III to develop Gears of War rather than Unreal Engine III."

I thought Silicon Knights complaint was that Epic was not delivering on promised features in their engine by dates specified by Epic. As such delays by Epic, caused delays in development for Silicon Knights. And SK was alledging that Epic was favoring producing their own product (Gears of War) with enhancements in the engine over supplying enhancements to third parties. Because SK was basing their product on the technology they purchased from Epic, they were at the mercy of whenever Epic could deliver their product. Instead, it appears SK had to develop its own enhancements in the engine themselves or face the costly decision of starting over and building their own engine. If I'm not mistaken, other developers have had to enhance the engine on certain functions that were not or still not yet available.

Silicon Knights' suit continues, Epic motion denied

I think Silicon Knights certainly has a valid case against Epic, and there's more than enough supporting evidence, should they decide to call in other developers or simply point to other major products based on the technology that have been mostly all delayed.

Dr. Phil talks Manhunt, but Steinberg steals the show

I still don't understand how Nintendo approved this for release on the Wii.

Things I Hate About TV: Jerry Seinfeld...

Oct 30th 2007 5:55PM (AOL TV)
I thought I was the only one annoyed by all of this. Bee Movie this, Bee movie that. N Bee C. UGH!

Instead of wanting to see this movie, I'm now avoiding it like the plaugue and I have a lower opinion of Seinfeld for over promoting himself.

What if Katie Couric hosted Saturday Night Live?

Oct 30th 2007 5:51PM (AOL TV)
I really don't like watching Katie Couric, so it would just give me a reason to skip SNL.

Team Fortess 2's Xbox Live update now available

Oct 30th 2007 11:35AM (Joystiq)
It's definately worse SINCE the patch. I had trouble with a major of the games I played yesterday.

I seriously hope someone from Value or Microsoft is reading this, as this is a great game, but has serious network issues with larger multiplayer gamers.

Team Fortess 2's Xbox Live update now available

Oct 29th 2007 5:51PM (Joystiq)
I don't know about anyone else, but this patch didn't seem to do much for me-- in fact I'm now dropping out on games on a regular basis.

Is anyone experiencing any issues after the patch?

I'm going to remove my router from the equation and plug directly into my internet connection, but I'm not so sure that's the problem, as I wasn't experiencing this many drop outs prior to the patch.

I couldn't complete a single game I tried to play yesterday
