@8bitartist If you are successful then tell me what you do. What is your salary range? What company do you work for? How are you traveling everywhere and save money at the same time? Porn stars do the exact same thing you do and earn a ton of money, so is that what you do? You haven't really told me anything except tell me you make a lot, travel a lot and work 3-4 days.
@8bitartist I pirate every game and movie so I don't spend money on frivolous things. I only buy stuff that stretches the dollar as far as it can go. I honestly really do not care about the gaming industry or anything.
@8bitartist It's a bit uncalled for, calling me an ungrateful twat. Everyone has their opinion but there's no need to trash talk fellow commenter like that. I sure as hell didn't call ANY of you guys names but ALL of you guys are trash talking me because you don't like what I have to say. Regardless of what is going on, I have my own opinion, I don't like this guy, downrate me all you want. If you want to discuss this with me, sure, I'm open to. But I haven't been trash talking any of you, however all of you are trash talking me. That is uncalled for.
@8bitartist Also don't tell me what to do and say that I'm lazy, etc when you're in the same boat as I am. You're not successful, you don't have the right to tell people what to do when you haven't done them yourself.
@8bitartist If it was that easy then that's what I would do. But it's not. You can't just up and move out of the state you were born in and live in. The cost of living is different everywhere you go. For instance, California is big in the games industry so that is where I would want to go. Right now, I live in Arizona. The cost of living is WILDLY different between the two. I would have to substantially raise money to get an apartment, move all my things down there, JUST FOR THE CHANCE of APPLYING for jobs. Not only that, but get only 1 month shot at it before my funds dry up. If it was really that easy, I'd do it.
@Apsac D If that's how you saw my post then you have absolutely nothing to say about my qualifications. It's ALWAYS more complex then that. You see, this is why I don't value opinions on Joystiq. You're just another fanboy that doesn't know wtf is going on.
@Gnomicidal As for the community manager position. I've been involved in many communities. Ranging from fighting game community, Xbox, PS2/3, WPLH, my client's forums (of which I've had a chance in shaping the business, I'm a contractor of theirs), and many more. My opinion is respected in those communities because they know that every time I talk, they expect a logical, well written answer. People are often satisfied with my answers. Look up my recent posts on League of Legends under coffeerox. LOTS of informative stuff I've written lately.
@Gnomicidal As for beta testing being a marketable skill. First of all, the sheer amount of testing I've done as well as experience, I understand gaming systems better than any average gamer out there. I know how to design a successful and fun videogame. My testing experience can also apply to game balance teams such as online games for example. You see those WoW patches and LoL patches, how they get tweaked every month or so? I can do that b/c I understand those systems very well.
@Gnomicidal The American Job system is trash because people cannot find the jobs they are looking for. When you compare this system to another country that has a national matchmaking system, top of the world in ranking, it is extremely lacking. Even if I can't work in gaming, I should be able to find a job that I excel in but I can't. System we have in place now is run by 3rd parties and capitalists that aren't looking for your best interests.
