Left 4 Dead 2 gets bots and SDK fixes in update, 360 patch coming soon

Feb 6th 2010 4:57AM (Joystiq)
Great...a patch later to be released on 360.

We all know how that works for Valve....How's that L4D1 DLC with more levels and guns coming? What about that Team Fortress 2 content that was supposed to come out the month after release? Oh its "still in the works"?

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 MP demo coming to 360 ... NOW

So um...can anyone even get in a game? Mine keeps trying to join and dropping me. I don't think its my network, as this seems a launch day issue for the franchise lol.

I generally get back from class, change to athletic shorts, take off my shirt, and scoot up to my tv.

Borderlands devs heading out for midnight launches in Texas

Nice shameless self promotion. I'll make sure to make a trip out there to play games on stuff every other person is touching and fighting for. If you pulled in the kind of sales Gamestop does as a corporation and were located in the home metro area of the developer I'm sure they might send a couple people by.

Just because you own a game store with some money invested in tech doesn't make it a good marketing hub.

For the halo3 launch they had a tourney at the location I live next to...they fit pizzas, 2 six foot subs, and 3 52" tv's in it.

Maybe you should find a better gamestop?

Left 4 Dead 'Crash Course' campaign DLC free on PC, $7 on 360 - this September

Aug 5th 2009 3:11AM (Joystiq)
You are right. They need to make money to survive.

I forgot the game didn't cost $60...I forgot the game cost $7 more for PC owners...I forgot that the same content was developed and released as paid content on PC.

I'm not saying there isn't DLC I would pay for. When RF: Guerilla content comes out I will gladly pay, because the game had a unique, open world SP game with destructible environments and no load times. The MP came complete with multiple game modes for both Split Screen and XBL, as well as like 24 maps. They already offered what appears to have taken them a large amount of production time.

Valve comes along with a game that costs the EXACT same retail value, and features 4 very linear maps, and so little Xbox DLC support that they didn't even confirm new content until people started signing petitions against them coming out with a sequel releasing less than a year after the first.

I played the RF beta a year and a half before the game came out, I wasn't aware that was the purpose of L4D1.

If the new campaign was $3 or $4 I would maybe pay, but for what they tout as "only taking 30 minutes in versus mode" that isn't worth my time. That was my point. And as much of a fan as you may be, I think the populous is split 50/50 between psyched and appaled.

Microsoft exec feels parents need to recognize consoles aren't 'toys'

Jul 11th 2009 6:44PM (Joystiq)
I'd agree with that other than the ever growing addiction to gaming (myself included). I'm not saying the game made him that way, but his parents can be blamed for not being more involved in his violent obsession with it. I've never heard of someone slaughtering there parents and blaming there insanity on a sugar low from lack of ice cream.

My point is that a console is more than a toy now, and gaming has groown with it's original generation into something much more than mere amusement.

Microsoft exec feels parents need to recognize consoles aren't 'toys'

Consoles are not TOYS in the regard that Thompson intends. When a parent thinks of a TOY it means something like legos. They can buy Legos, give them to their child and rest at ease knowing that is the end of the responsibility. MANY MANY parents fail to realize what truly is being played on the console. They are ignorant of the ratings and allow their kids to convince them into buying them games not intended for their age range.

I'm not saying that's not ok, but I've played with kids who obviously are young kids, but they are very good at the games, and don't scream, cry, and swear. Games CAN do psychological damage to those who are too immature for their content (like the kid who murdered his family for grounding him from halo). I'm not saying video games create monsters, I played violent games young, but I also was going to honors courses everyday and maintaining a 4.2.

Parents need to get involved and realize that a game console requires as much governing as a computer (assuming they govern their kid internet). It isn't a TOY as it isn't MEANT purely for ANYBODY. That is the key definition behind toy here.
