EA was wrong to ride PS3 & Xbox 360, CEO says

Jul 27th 2007 3:16PM (Joystiq)
PS3 software sales face a hurdle in having to cater to an audience capable of investing in an such an expensive system.

I think anyone developing a Wii game faces a hurdle in having to compete with Nintendo and something that completely utilizes Wii. Very few third parties are had large selling Wii titles.

Sony's Peter Dille: 'We're attacking online very, very aggressively'

Jul 25th 2007 2:44PM (Joystiq)
A 10 year life cycle on a console is only important to Sony, so they can maximize their profits.

Does most people hold onto a computer for 10 years? How about a video player?

Yet another example of Sony telling us what we should have instead of listening to consumers.

Rumor: Xbox 360 gets $50 price cut in August

Jul 25th 2007 11:36AM (Joystiq)
I've long said that Microsoft should have a price drop before the release of Halo 3. Halo 3 will drive sales anyway. Why not drive sales prior to then?

It's something a lot of people are waiting to happen.

And I think Microsoft missed an opportunity to preceed the PS3 price cut to differenciate themselves from Sony. Instead, they let Sony have a window of opportunity. And Microsoft has totally misjudged Nintendo, who is running all over them at a lower price point.

Sony: Enough 60GBs for "several months" in U.S. [Update 4]

Jul 13th 2007 6:45PM (Joystiq)
I'm not real crazy about Sony's strategy.

They introduce two consoles, one at $499 and one at $599. Both are overly expensive for gaming.

They drop the $499 model after a few months saying that more expensive model is outselling the cheaper model, and retailers do not want to stock the cheaper model.

Then they announce they're going to reduce the $599 model to $499.

Then we learn there's a new $599 model.

Days later we learn the $499 is going to be discontinued and they will only be a $599 model.

This is progress?

It's as if Sony doesn't know what they're doing. Plus their keeping their console at $599, despite offering lures of a cheaper model. It's pretty much a bait and switch.

Sony continues to be a PR nightmare.

Engadget & Joystiq interview: Kaz Hirai and Jack Tretton, Presidents, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc., and America

Jul 13th 2007 1:34PM (Joystiq)
Was does Sony waste time taking a swipe at Nintendo or Microsoft, when they could be devoting energy to making their product more desirable.

They did it here, and they did it during their conference.

Stop complaining about the competition, and do something to dazzle us!

No reason to buy one now then. Might as well just wait until the next price cut...

This looked pretty cool. There's a number of possibilities where it could be kinda fun.

Chatpad Messenger Kit will cost $30 [update 1]

Jul 10th 2007 5:11PM (Joystiq Xbox)
If I'm not mistaken, this headset has a different input, because the chatpad covers up the existing headset port. At least that's how it appears in the picture. Perhaps that'll change.

As far as a wireless headset for the 360, one is already available.

Jack Tretton: "The PS3 is still dominant."

Jul 9th 2007 5:22PM (Joystiq)
It's hard to take Sony seriously when they make statesments we know that aren't true. That they continually make untrue statements makes me question anything they say.
