Rainbow 6: Patriots development team restructured [update: Ubisoft partially confirms]

Mar 7th 2012 7:23PM (Joystiq)
There hasn't been a decent R6 game since Raven Shield. They are to linear and scripted for me now. I used to spend hours kitting out my teams, creating entry and clear plans. The maps were varied and big enough for endless replays using different weapons and tactics. It's been an average corridor shooter with a 'cinematic' story ever since.

Medal of Honor Warfighter features international 'Tier 1 Operators' in multiplayer

@IronArcher "religious nutjobs"

What like Santorum and Bachman ?

Yeah they are scary people, I'd want to be liberated from them and their fundamentalist christian taliban agenda.

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games receiving second season

Sep 21st 2010 6:17PM (Joystiq)
@shoan It's because the dev costs are covered by our license fees. All BBC content is free for us because we pay a lump sum TV tax once a year that is given to the BBC to make stuff. All BBC channels (TV and Radio) are also commercial free for the same reason. But ALL Johnny foreigners must pay or put up with commercials if they want access (unless you proxy) not just rebellious tax dodging Yankees.

We are however following your Tea party stuff at the moment with much amusement.

We are very much enjoying reading about the anti-masturbation, unemployed, tax dodging nutter and darling of the fundamentalist far-right Miss O'Donnell at the moment. But they are all very entertaining, particularly Ms Palin and Mr Beck, a comedy writer couldn't write better characters.

R.U.S.E. review: Real time, realer boredom

"I checked the Options at least a dozen times to make sure there wasn't a "OMG, move faster" button"

Actually there is................it's called the 'Blitzkrieg' Ruse. Units travel much faster when using it.

Rock Band 3 details: RB2 export confirmed for all consoles, 'pro' mode DLC may be more expensive

Sep 6th 2010 1:30PM (Joystiq)
So we should assume the exported tracks from RB1+2 and any existing DLC will not support 'Pro-Mode'. Shame but then I expected this to be the case so it's no deal breaker.

I am a bit miffed about the pricing for Pro DLC though, I mainly play the drums, it's not that more work putting little cymbal icons on the relevant notes, as it is 99% are cymbal hits anyway with only the occasional tom tom notes. I assume it must be the guitar and keyboard parts that are more work for them. I'm probably not going to be playing them in pro mode so I'm a bit gutted about paying more for DLC just to have half a dozen non cymbal notes per tune.

Oh well it's still a day one purchase, but I've yet to see the pro-drums advertised for preorder/sale in the UK for my 360 yet. I MUST HAVE.

Medal of Honor multiplayer trailer is eerily familiar

I've noticed something strange about that multiplayer vid. 90% of the team weren't snipers camping at the back, which is what it will be like.

Best Buy confirms Alpha Protocol 'Stealth Weapons Pack' pre-order bonus

Apr 28th 2010 9:33AM (Joystiq)
I hate this pre-order bullshit.

What if you don't live in a region or country where the promotion is valid in, what if there are no participating stops local to your home, what if you have a preferred other retailer you always use ?

Does having this uber equipment at the beginning of a game unbalance it and make it a bit too easy, is not having this pre-order bonus going to make the first few levels more difficult ?

I really don't like paying full price for a game and being denied access to content on the disc. There has been a few games now that have had multiple pre-order bonuses at different stores, what is the point of that ?, I can't buy a copy from everyone of them, Then they try to sell me the stuff I've missed out on because I got it from A instead of B. But it's already on the disc.

Impressions: Two Worlds II

Mar 30th 2010 3:50PM (Joystiq)
I'm glad this is looking good. I found the first one to give a terrible first impression but I grew to really like it after a few hours of play. Sure it was rough, but a rough diamond in my opinion. The game had some really interesting features. It was very ambitious and failed to reach a lot of its promises but there was enough there to make me think the devs have a lot of good ideas. It was obvious that they simply ran out of dev time and money.

I shall be getting this, I'm all for supporting smaller dev's and publishers that try to make epic games. It does not matter to me if their first attempt comes up a bit short, I could see what they were trying to do and believe that this learning process for them will help them to make great RPG's.

Note to dev's you've said you are having professional voice work this time around, please please please keep the old dude with the mad laugh that voiced the old necromancers.

Hands-on: Breach (XBLA)

Mar 27th 2010 7:30PM (Joystiq)
I was interested in this until I read,

"Once propped against a piece of cover, the camera jumps out to a third-person view, permitting blind fire and the ability to lean out and aim."

So basically everyone is going to camp and then pop out to shoot anyone stupid enough to try and move. I had enough of that playing Rainbow 6 and GRAW.

Can anyone that has played tell me, is it like R6 et al where while in cover you can see around/over the cover with your crosshairs pointing where the enemy will come from.

I understand that cover mechanics are fairly realistic but I don't like that in cover you can clearly see what is coming. I would prefer a cover system that does not allow you to see/aim until you pop your head out and look. I just really felt this ruined R6 as people just camped corridors, they could see clearly who was coming while you never knew they were there. The only way to deal with it is to frag everywhere that people can hide behind.

It also made it fairly easy to spawn camp, with people camping out the spawn exit hidden behind cover with a clear view into the spawn area.

I'm not a great fan of snipers in these games either. I would not mind if the maps were big/huge but giving someone a 1 shot kill gun while other guns need to hit several times means that most people will be snipers. Sniper rifles are meant to be long distance guns, if the maps are not very big why do we need snipers.

Cover campers and snipers are taking the fun out of shooters for me being a assault/rifleman class type of guy.

Oh well I'll wait and see what the cover mechanic is like, bullet damage and if there are limits to the amount of any given class per team before I dismiss this completely. Hopefully there will be a demo/beta, being XBLA I assume it must have a demo.

RUSE June 3 release date is no trick; beta next week

Mar 3rd 2010 10:43PM (Joystiq)
In the videos I've watched they zoom the map to unit level, so I assume you can give individual orders. It just looks like they've made it very easy to give group and army commands from zoomed out levels. The bane of console RTS's.

Officially interested, used to love Ubi games, but haven't bought one for years (I'd love Silent Hunter 5 but my laptop spec says no), I will try a demo. Endwar was awful though, I'm not expecting to like RUSE. I wish I was.
