Smith wasn't the lead designer of Deus Ex, he was the lead designer of DX: Invisible War, which is nothing less than a bastard stepchild of the original. As far as I can tell, all he did was drive Spector's masterwork into the dust.
Dumbness. The day I got an Apple ][ emulator working on my DS with an R4 flash card was the happiest day of DS-ownership I've ever had. Bard's Tale > Etrian Odyssey, and I figured it's about time I finished the game of Destiny Knight I started 20 years ago.
I don't own a Wii, and am not looking to get one any time soon - even if I could. Flash > substance, and too many gimmicks. I'm going back to PC gaming for a while.
I went to the DC one, too, and agree with everything El Cruzado said. Advent Rising? That tune was so forgettable that I couldn't hum it even five minutes after I heard it. I think I enjoyed the show, but I wouldn't go again, especially to hear the same lineup of music.
And Tallarico with his hammyness just plain got on my nerves. On the one hand, he says it's "serious art" - on the other, he acts like it's...well, just what it is - a concert geared towards geeky teens.
And any VG Music concert that eschews Castlevania music is hardly worthy of the name.
Now if only I could find a Wii, I could play the game. Seems I still have to camp out to get one, though, which is ridiculous - I'm not that into Nintendo.
I can't wait until I finish the main "quest" so that I can jack up the GTS (Global Trading Station) with Jirachis from the bonus disc, which is worth more than the game that it was a pre-order bonus for now. SO glad I bit the bullet and spent the full $50 for Colosseum when it first came out. I'm gonna drive a hard bargain and bleed someone for their legendaries so that they can get my promo.
Likewise, I'm savoring the efforts I went through to obtain Deoxys, Celebi, and Mew. It's practically money in the bank.
Still, the price for USED games...? The only game that isn't that readily available new is Ruby, from what I can see - and perhaps Colosseum. What goes for BIG bucks are Pokemon Box and the pre-order disc for Colosseum. But Box just has a bunch of semi-useful novelty variations on guys you can already get (although Colosseum has some unique ones).
The first Deus Ex game was a work of complete genius.
The second fell far short - the fact that it was a console game DID ruin it. All the vast, open levels got scrunched into these dinky, cramped little micro-segments. The lack of newspaper articles, books, and other "background info" in the game also meant that the sequel lacked a lot of the depth that the original had. Funny how those small details add up to a big loss.
Without Spector's guidance, I predict that this sequel will fail. I certainly won't preorder it - I regret paying full price for IW even to this day.
