Raid Rx: No pally? No problem

Jul 23rd 2010 1:38PM (WoW)
I really love the "Bring the player, not the class" policy blizzard is trying to implement.

In our 10 man ICC runs, we usually have 3-4 priests in our raid and we do just fine (Granted the ICC buff helps a lot. We have so much fun on raid nights, I wouldn't replace any of them for a holy pally or any other supposedly must have class. Some people complain that all the classes feels homogenized but I rather bring someone we know who's cool and won't complain about loot than a random pugger because we "need" bloodlust/holypallies.

Also one time we held out and pugged a holy pally for our half-pug/guildy 25man ICC run. We were wiping on marrowgar and was wondering why our pally MT was outhealing the holy pally on the meters. It turns out that he didn't know how to pull out raid frames and since he wasn't in the tank's group, he didn't know how to target the tank. So he ended up beaconing one of the tanks, and then ran to the furtherest corner of the room (to avoid the cold flames) and spammed heals on himself...

Breakfast Topic: When a character just doesn't click

You should get a bar addon such as bartender or domino. They let you customize your bars so that your other bars will switch to a different page whenever you switch stance/form. Honestly I can't ever go back to playing my druid without bartender/domino.

Guest Post: Vetting puggers -- beyond GearScore and achievements

Jul 18th 2010 1:49PM (WoW)
I'm pretty sick of people screaming "GEARSCORE SUCKS!!!11". Gearscore is a tool, and its a very useful one... as long as you know how to use it.

You noted "experience" as one of the alternative things to wowarmory/ask for. MOST people don't know about this, but if you /gs or /gs with someone targeted (and that person has to be in range), it will bring up the gearscore window. There is an experience tab where it will show how many kills the player has on each boss.

Also in the GS window, it has bars on the left to see how geared he is for each spec. Although its not 100% accurate (the overall GS number looks a bit arbitrary), it tells you if they are under the defense cap if in tank specs, hit cap/expertise cap for dps, missing gems, missing enchants, etc. Note that it only checks to see if a player actually has any enchant/gems for that piece of gear, it doesn't check if it's appropriate for their role so some rogue can have a +sp gem and it'll show up as gemmed.

Gear Score already accounts for "Experience" and "Dedication". It annoys me when people say GEARSCORE SUCKS when they don't even know about the /GS window. I say "most" people don't know about it because in the latest GS update, the developer decided to put in a reminder about the /GS screen in the tooltip box.

And honestly, if we don't have gearscore, we'll probably end up looking at "average ilvl" of items instead. Gearscore is actually superior to average ilvl since weapons are worth more points (weapons are generally the biggest upgrades) than other pieces of gear.

Yoot Saito's 'The Tower' headed to iPad

Jul 10th 2010 2:31PM (Joystiq)
Simtower was one of my first PC game I ever played...

I remember playing the game on my first 50 Mhz desktop back then and one day in game was about an hour in real time. Eventually I got the chance to play it on my friend's 133 Mhz desktop and apparently one day is actually 5-10 minutes... It turns out that my crappy computer just couldn't process/play the game fast enough.

Child's Play pulls out of Atlantica Online charity drive because of negative player feedback

Dec 31st 2009 10:53PM (Massively)
Wow that's just a ****ed up attitude to take. If AO really cared about donating, they should of gladly took off Child's Play's links/logos/etc and still give donate the measly 5%.

In that case, people who actually buy the item, actually brought it because they want the item, and AO gets to do something nice for the holidays and contribute to child's play. AO is a decent f2p game, but their stance and attitude are just messed up.

Devs show Steam love as Pitchford defends his criticism

@Grey Acumen

I remember reading the article in which he made those comments and thats the same impression that I got when I first read it. I really don't get why people are blowing it up and taking it out of context.

In fact, I thought he brought up a very good point, It never even came to my mind that valve/steam can have a conflict of interest with other games. Good thing FPSes aren't really in full competition against each other like for some other genres/games. If valve made World of Warcraft, or some other MMO, I'm pretty sure you won't see much MMOs available on steam.

Dave Perry talks Gaikai: 'Gamestop already hate me'

Jul 15th 2009 12:43PM (Joystiq)
Why is gaikai getting so much coverage from joystiq, when onlive (who is basically doing the same thing) is getting none?
