Was it really easier to add a whole new goldsync, NPCs and UI elements for those NPCs than it would've been to modify the existing character sheet with a vanity gear tab?
It seems like the craziest work around they could've cooked up, and it's still annoyingly limited in what you can transmogrify.
Driver: San Francisco was great. It's story could've been totally stupid, but it wasn't. It was incredibly enjoyable and, more importantly, it served the gameplay.
I'm intensely sick of "games" that think their boilerplate retread stories are good enough to justify cutscene after cutscene, and one empty "moral choice" after another. Give me gameplay, and give me consequences within the gameplay.
Beyond that, I'm pretty surprised by the reaction to this news. Of course, I was also surprised by the instant hype the R6: Patriots trailer received. Everything about it felt like it was straining to grab on to CoD's coat tails. I thought people loved the R6 series for the methodical, tactics driven gameplay.
New York has always been an important port city. I imagine it will be sort of like Rome in AC2/Brotherhood, plot wise. Boston and Philly were the Colonial cities, while New York was home to the British and Loyalists.
It doesn't really come through in these shots (I hope it does in the actual game...), but I read a description of his hood saying it actually is made to look like a bald eagle's beak. The point over the forehead is much more prominent than on Ezio and Altair's hoods, at least.
I'll be shocked if there aren't unlockable British/Loyalist/Colonial/Native outfits. Shocked and a little disappointed.
That could very well be the case, but if it is, this game is one hell of an undertaking. I mean, they squeezed every last ounce they could out of the assets and environments in AC, AC2 and it's spinoffs. It seems like it would be a ton of work to build up an American city, the American wilderness, a French city and whatever future location Desmond is in.
It would be totally awesome, but it would also be a departure from their past designs.
That said, if Ben Franklin does turn out to be your new da Vinci, maybe he'll take you with him across the pond?

Mar 8th 2012 6:30PM (Massively)Both games are far from the first.
LOTRO has vanity gear.
Age of Conan has an extremely intuitive and simple system for equipping appearance armor over stat armor.
And, from my experience, DCUO has the most well thought out and comprehensive gear customization system of all.

In an MMO, bosses will always die faster for mathematical zealots.

I guess not.

Mar 6th 2012 9:57PM (Joystiq)I've got your back.
I enjoyed the combat more than Arkham City's overwrought "use all gadgets" take on the Arkham Asylum formula.
It totally sucked that it was impossible to play through the whole game with the classic Cap costume, though.
