It was really funny to read this article, since I actually work on a daily basis with a lot of the data that's sent back from MRO (all publicly available imagery can be found here: http://ode.rsl.wustl.edu/mars/index.aspx). The cameras that are onboard the spacecraft are very high resolution; some of the grayscale images are pretty enormous in size (as big as 1 GB), so, unfortunately, the virtual pipes will likely be too gummed up even a game of Civ :( However, luckily some new orbiters will be going up in the 201X's, so maybe if we ask NASA really really nicely, they'll let us have some playtime with our martian pals.
yale's open courseware is amazing. i'm taking the game theory course at the moment, and it is very well taught. i highly recommend them.
one problem that i have with these itunes offerings, though, is that they are a listing of the low-quality videos (about 250mb each) instead of the high-quality ones (about 500mb). the high-quality ones are much more useful, since on the low-quality version, you have trouble reading the board. i know that they have blackboard notes available for download on their website, but i find that looking at those while trying to watch the lecture and take notes myself is annoying.
other than that, i think this is a great addition to the itunes u offerings. big kudos to apple and yale for that!
Online gaming between Earth and Mars will be laggy as hell
