Borderlands Glitch Watch 2009: Radeon-powered PC crashes
Nov 3rd 2009 8:47PM (Joystiq)Far Crysis: PCs will weep at Far Cry 2's system reqs
Aug 8th 2008 3:31PM (Joystiq)Yes, the minimum requirements are kinda high. 5 years ago. Seriously, i BEAT those minimum requirements back in 2004.
The "reccomended" requirements are also incredibly easy to destroy with a roughly $500 computer. I don't see how this is any issue at all. (cheap mobo $70, cheap c2d ($100) 8800GT ($120) 2 gigs ram (60~), = $450. (Omitting case, dvd drive and monitor that you should probably already own)

Buyer's Guide: Graphics cards compared
Apr 11th 2006 4:58PM (Joystiq)You're quite off.
The Xbox360 is rather comparable to an X800 in videocard, this is using 720p as a standard. The numbers aren't exact, of course, but the 360 hasn't done anything that a top of the line card last generation could accomplish better. (Better meaning a higher resolution).
Oblivion is a wonderful proof of this.
The PS3 is essentially using a 7800 series according to both Sony and Nvidia, which is what it would need to accomplish 1080p (which i doubt it can do at high framerates). A 7800 is more than enough power would really ever be necessary for a 720p or standard television.
As you did say though, both have considerably less videocard RAM. This isn't as important as it is for PC, as PC's have much more things they have to balance in the normal ram that videogames don't.
That chart seems rather accurate, as my videocard is running the exact same speed as the 6800ultra they tested. Weird that they did the test using a Pentium D, why not an AMD?
Still, i rarely trust things out of TomsHardware.
Nvidia releases AGP compatible GeForce 7800 GS
Feb 4th 2006 2:49PM (Joystiq)Nvidia wasn't lying when they said that there would never be a 7800GT on AGP, this thing is noticeably weaker than the PCI-E top card offerings, but it's still a good card for those with AGP slots.
Radeon equivalent to Xbox 360 over $500
Feb 1st 2006 6:22AM (Joystiq Xbox)The extra mhrz combined with the *massive* increase in ram speed are what make this possible the X1900 series of graphics cards are made to run a game with absolutely everything on max, including 16xAA/32AF at over 1600x1200.
The xbox360 graphics card isn't made to run anything over 720p (1080x720 i believe) at 4xAA
Of course, the main difference is that you're paying for a graphics card for more than it takes to pay for the entire xbox360 system.
The X800 or 6800series is more comparable to what the xbox can actually put out, except the xbox has lower resolution. (Mainly due to the ram speed).
Joystiq Poll: WASD or arrows? Pick one!
Jan 26th 2006 11:15PM (Joystiq)How can you possibly play a recent FPS with the arrow pads if you only have a 3 button mouse? You'd be missing out on extremely important abilities, like reloading, grenades, jumping, ducking, running, "use", quick weapon switching.....etc. etc.
One of his arguments is that you use the pinky key instead of the thumb as a main button.
with WASD, you use your thumb for jumping, as if you were to remap jump to button 5 on a mouse, it'd be using your uhh... pinky.

Joystiq Poll: Most games per system
Jan 16th 2006 11:37AM (Joystiq)(Oh, only 58)
SNES is second, 40ish.
It's great at parties (Xbox 360 delight #005)
Jan 2nd 2006 10:09PM (Joystiq)It's mainly because Mario Kart: DD, Monkey Ball, and Mario Party titles are far more friendly (and fun) than most other multiplayer games.
I also own wavebirds.
For the "gamer" friends, Smash Brothers, FF:CC, Zelda: Four Swords, Metal Arms, F-Zero GX and Timesplitters games more than suffice.
They tend to be a bit too much to handle for casual folks, however.
(thats not even mentioning all of those2 player games i own)
