@(Unverified) You do QA in the video game industry? That number may be normal for the general software industry, but in gaming, expect to make 30% less money and work 30% more hours across all disciplines. Also expect to be out of work for 1-3 months per year.
@aggrolorg I never felt like the portable games were "run into the ground" as you put it. I did feel like they were getting a little stale, but I still appreciated the small changes they made to try and move the formula in each game. I really enjoyed all of them, but I would put Harmony of Dissonance and Portrait of Ruin at the bottom of the list. I've been aching for a new one for a while now, and Harmony of Despair really only did so much for me. I'd really love to see a new one for an HD platform, and a 2D Castlevania for Vita would be a system-seller for me.
I'd prefer it not be on the 3DS, however; I don't like playing 2D games with an analog thumbstick.
@Faceless Troll " Outliers – folks making dramatically more or less than the average – were removed from results before averaging "to prevent them from unnaturally skewing the averages." "
The reason it says this is because there is no portion on the Salary survey for anyone who is a contracted employee; just salaried, or independent contractor, so probably 80% of QA and slightly fewer designers are not included.
@BFBeast666 I'm with you; LoS was NOT castlevania at all, it was a shameless rip-off of God of War and Shadow of the Colossus in every way. The level design was lousy, the camera was the biggest obstacle in the game, it had almost ZERO exploration factor, it was just awful.
When Retro studios made Metroid prime, it was still about exploration, finding secrets, collecting power-ups-- it still FELT like Metroid. Castlevania LoS, felt NOTHING like Castlevania, and even on it's own merits was completely mediocre.
As for the music, I don't even remember it beyond thinking that it was also, just like God of War; which is to say heavy on the lower scale horns, with no real melody, just ambiance with occasional rhythmic blaring.
So yeah, I HATED it. Leave Castlevania to the Japanese, they're pretty much the only people who know how to make a fun game anyway.
