Joystiq Review: Trackmania DS
Mar 19th 2009 2:36PM (Joystiq Nintendo)You sound disappointed in this review for certain things in Trackmania DS that sound like they are just like the PC game.
The only thing in your review that sounds any different from the PC version is that you can't play online or upload your tracks online--which is a disappointment to be sure--but it sounds like you're faulting the game for being true to what Trackmania is in some cases because you expect it to be like Ridge Racer or Gran Turismo or something.
Touch Ruminations: Progressive necessity
Feb 28th 2009 2:01PM (Joystiq Nintendo)I disagree with the article. As far as I can tell, this game is *entirely* about graphics/art, therefore it should look its best. It seems to me that if the game wasn't highly stylized like it is, it would just be called Manhunt 3. But since they're doing something kind of unique with the graphics, people seem to love it.
I think you've invested so much of your emotion into the hype for the game that you're trying to rationalize yourself into a way to allow yourself to not be so disappointed that it's not going to be in 480p. That's just basic psychology.
In my opinion, every Wii game should support 480p and widescreen, even if it's just Imagine: Sweet 16 Party. (And I don't even have a widescreen TV.)

Jan 27th 2009 1:45AM (Download Squad)I'm not sure if I was just lucky or if this is the norm, but Ubuntu didn't have any problem detecting and using my wireless card right from the get-go. So far my Ubuntu experience has been great, so I'd recommend using Wubu to install it if you want to give Ubuntu another go.

Jan 24th 2009 1:08PM (Joystiq Nintendo)I didn't really care for it.
I'm not sure what my problem is. The only tactics game that I've enjoyed was Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS1. I loved that game and even spent the time to level up all my characters to master all the classes before finishing the game.
I played a lot of FFT Advance (GBA) but ultimately never finished it. I also tried out FFTA2 (DS) but lost interest after the first few battles.
Then when I played Fire Emblem (GCN) I just didn't like it at all.
I've also tried other tactics games, such as Disgaea (DS), Luminous Arc (DS), and . . . that's all I can think of but I'm sure there were a few more. Ultimately they all have the same problem: 20 minutes of dialog before, after, in between, and sometimes during battles and 50 minute battles. (I know I'm exaggerating a little there.)
I just can't get myself interested in that kind of gameplay anymore. I'm not willing to spend an hour just for one battle.
On the other hand, these kinds of games are great to play while laying down in bed. They put me to sleep really fast, and I'm an insomniac, so that's saying something.
