Rock Band ships 3 million 'bundled' units, 10 million songs downloaded

May 3rd 2008 2:09AM (Joystiq)
Shipped = sold to publishers. They're sold to retailers , so they're profit / sold. Whether or not retailers sell it is irrelevant.

God of War 2 GDC video leaked online

Eh, don't worry, Choi. I still love you.

I remember a day when you'd have to wait until the first of each month for gaming news. Back in the days before the interweb allowed instant news, the days of magazine print...

Then again, the age old story of "this is a blog, not a news site" comes to mind.

SCEA: PSP price drop to $199 on March 22nd; EyeToy, GPS, and PSone game-download support coming later

"22. How is the PS1 game download going to work? Uber long download times, and what, only 3 1GB memory sticks for FFVII? =|"

Actually, each disc being 700mb tops, that's 2100mb. Each disc is not topped out though. FF7 on my computer is less than the size of a UMD. 1gig compressed setup, like 1.5g undone.

Also, why would you need all 3 discs loaded at once? Chances are you'd be able to load one disc at a time on your mem stick (since you get at least 18 hours a pop on the first two discs, no big deal). Also with compression of video and audio files these days, and the reduced resolution, it wouldn't be too suprising if they could fit all three discs at 700-900mb or so.

Think logically, if Sony hasn't thought it through they probably wouldn't be announcing it. Everyone was skeptical about video UMDs, but hey, they sell. I have a feeling they'll find a way to make this work... Once they address the L2/R2 problem I'll be content.

SOE announces Untold Legends for PS3

Mar 15th 2006 4:10PM (Joystiq)
"I'm puzzled as to why Sony's first shown title would be a sequel to a game who's first iteration got a 70% on Gamerankings and the second is at a 62.5%."

Um. First game was a total rush job (what this is looking to be) - development of like 3-4months. The second title isn't even out yet. How does it have a ranking already?

Few things.

1)When would these proposed PS1 games start being offered? I want Final Fantasy Tactics NOW.

2)I share concern as to how they'd handle the lack of an L2/R2. Maybe the Dpad left/right could server as L2/R2, but be really awkward. Other than that I'm not really sure.

3)Size of games could easily be reduced. Think about it. They just recently put the original Resident Evil + MORE on a DS cart... which to my knowledge tops off at 512mb right now. With the way format encoding goes these days (sound + video), as well as scaling down the resolution - it's my guess that they'll be able to drop the size of the games down to a third of what they actually were on a CD.

Personally I really look forward to that and the possibility of a high megapixel camera attachment. They may encourage me to updgrade from 1.5 with all these changes. Let's just hope they shoot through all the PS1 greatest hits games first (give me FF Tactics!). Battle Arena Toshinden 1+2 wouldn't be too shabby either =) Wonder if these games will have local wifi support?

Sony's MMO marketing shows signs of desperation

Feb 17th 2006 12:08AM (Joystiq)
Yeah... Heh, SoE is dying. If you asked me, it started going downhill since McQuad left. Planes of Power picked back up, but then the MMO rush was hitting hard... Planetside was a noble effort, but should have never happened. FPS fans do not want long term build.

Eitherway, I think Vanguard will be the new flagship of hardcore MMO's once it comes out. I imagine EQ and EQ2's playerbase completely migrating to Vanguard. I know a lot of people that aren't playing MMOs(including WoW) until Vanguard comes out. It'll be big, it's got the momentum already. Then again, I haerd nothing about WoW until it came out. Sleeper hits the way to go?

Games of the week

Feb 6th 2006 3:30PM (Joystiq)
Is it safe to assume that the PC onliners can not play against the PS2 or Xbox gamers? It'd be sweet if there were unified servers like Final Fantasy XI.

And btw, the 9 is below the Eleven on the logo. So "Winning Eleven 9" - the ninth game in a series called Winning Eleven (or the 5th Pro Evolution).

And nay. This is not the greatest soccer game. This is the greatest sports game to date. I had the euro PC version, suffered from vertical tearing (no Vsync option), so I'll probably be getting the Xbox version.

But mm... Tales of Legendia? Me wanty... Destiny got me hooked on the series, and Symphonia seriously reinforced that.

Advent Children DVD finally coming to US

Feb 6th 2006 5:30AM (Joystiq)
"Source?"

No official source. Just a common consensus on the internet. They'd never announce that.

"I think they may be getting English voice actors."
Dude, new VAs do *NOT* take a full year. If you watched anime at all you'd know localizations don't take that long. Especially if you already watched the movie, you'd know there are basically zero cultural references. Everything inside the movie pertains to the game world, and all the parts of the game world it pertains to has no mythological or historical lore behind it in the real life... IE - no cultural references to rescript.

:It would be nice to hear something concrete though. I never heard about a delay of this. They just didn't send it out when they said they planned to. I didn't know a company could do that."
-- I agree. I don't regret torrenting it one bit since they are taking for fucklong ever to release in NA. God i wish it came out already or had an official date yet...

But yeah, the rumor of it being release issues with Sony spawns off the fact that it's actually being released in Aussie before the US. No problems down there.

Advent Children DVD finally coming to US

Actually it's taking so long because of legal issues. Sony is giving Square a hard time releasing it in NA.

And c'mon the, PSP is completely all for the rereleases. Especially something that's sold like over 11million copies to date. I can guarantee it'll happen before the end of the PSPs life, just not in 2006.

Game On exhibit back on at Chicago museum

Where ever did I say that Nintendo aided in creation of the power glove?

I'm just saying, they endorsed the HELL out of that thing. It only works with THEIR system. It even says "Nintendo Power Glove" on it. So saying "Nintendo Power Glove" isn't really wrong, so I don't see why you corrected the man in saying they had nothing to do with it.
