Opinion: What Wii has done wrong

Nov 8th 2008 4:01AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
i just wish motionplus had been released earlier, but i can understand that price was an issue. storage is huge for me and better online would have been nice, but whatever, i'm happy.

on a completely unrelated note, i've seen that dog/cat/rat combo used in the pic. i used to attend school in santa barbara and that's where the picture was taken. it's a pretty amazing sight and the trainer seems like a really cool guy.

Homebrew community takes back the Wii

Oct 27th 2008 4:07PM (Engadget)
You can start here with the Twilight Hack:

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Twilight_Hack

you will only need to run this once to install the homebrew channel (HBC).
http://hbc.hackmii.com/dist/the_homebrew_channel-beta_9.tar.gz

you can do w/o the HBC, but you'd have to run the Twilight Hack everytime, so i recommend installing HBC.

you will also need a copy of Zelda Twilight Princess, an SD card, and something to connect your SD card to your computer.
make sure to save your Zelda TP save file to your computer as you will need to replace it with the hacked save file.

the instructions to installing the Twilight Hack are on the first link, seems kinda long, but it's rather easy.

If you want to play DVDs, Wii Fanboy posted a walkthrough to installing the Twilight Hack and the Homebrew Channel, as well as the necessary apps to play DVDs.
http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/photos/guide-to-watching-dvds-on-wii/974716/

The Homebrew Channel will be installed as a channel on your wii, as the name suggests. It allows one to easily use applications by just placing them on the SD card.

wiibrew.org provides plenty of other homebrew for the wii, with instructions on how to run it using HBC.
you can also download the Homebrew Browser for use on the HBC which allows one to download more homebrew using the wii's wifi. you can find it at wiibrew.org, engadget only allows so many links...

hope that helps!!

New System Update may block Homebrew Channel [update]

Oct 23rd 2008 2:45PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
i'm with rex on this. while i do admit to having emulators on my homebrew, i respect the developers who took the time to make these games. i do not put any games that i don't already own in cartridge format or on VC (holding them on my wii is no longer a viable option, i need room for wiiware...). As well, I like to use it as a media player. I like the convenience of having all my ripped movies and shows on my external so I can watch any episode w/o having to go through the discs. but that's just me, i'm not part of your supposed majority.

I've been meaning to buy a 360 for a while, this will just give me another reason to finally pick one up... unless engadget wants to buy me one, as a graduation gift? :)

Wii Warm Up: Button placement

Apr 24th 2008 2:16PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
it's not a problem so long as i don't need to reach for it mid action, but i have pretty big hands and i've gotten used to it. the -/+ never give me any trouble. it would be nice if the A button weren't so lonely though...
