Japan software sales: July 3-9, 2006

Jul 14th 2006 12:56PM (Joystiq)
@ Jeff #14 -

I've always felt this to be the case. The real growth area does seem to be in H/helds at the moment. It's obvious why - with both the DS and PSP, we're seeing console quality titles. eg Mario Kart DS (which many judge to be better than Double Dash) and Metroid Prime Hunters to name but two for the DS. On the PSP we have Outrun 2006 and Virtua Tennis to name two that equal if not exceed their PS2 equivalents.

We all have big (perhaps ageing) stereo systems at home but where do we listen to most of our music? On ipods and other portable audio devices. Why? Because it's more accessible by virtue of its size and portability.

On new/next-gen consoles as well, if the market slows considerably, it's Nintendo that stands to gain the most (by virtue of it's cheaper Wii chipset) and Microsoft and, especially, Sony who stand to lose the most.

Lackluster Lite launch in UK, Nintendo still committed to DS Phat

"While Lite did not prove to be a sell-out, Nintendo UK is likely to be encouraged by a solid early performance during a World Cup and without a heavy marketing push behind the hardware during the launch window."

Microsoft planning simpler controller?

Jun 25th 2006 5:33PM (Engadget)
I still think this is the best GCN Nintendo controller that never was.

Only I would have put two face buttons (A & B) rather than the customary four.

A pair of analogue sticks, a pair of shoulder buttons and a pair of face buttons. And one Start/Pause button. Perfect.

The Horror: DS Lite malfunction

Jun 1st 2006 5:54PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
What JCA (#21) says is worth a shot if the thing can't be returned/replaced. Be careful of steps 3 and 4. You don't want to jack up the machine completely. If nothing else, I'm assuming it'll play GBA games perfectly well on the upper screen? Also, games where the lower screen displays just a map (eg New Super Mario Bros) is prob still playable.

Good luck if you do decide to open it up to rectify the problem.

Wii will cost $200 say spectators

PRESS ALERT!!

"how much the Wii (PS3, Xbox 360) costs to make -- no-one has stepped up to the task just yet." --Joystiq

I, of Michigan Institute of Securities (MIS for short), hereby stepup to the plate to annouce that Wii costs...(drumroll please) just $10 to manufacture.

You may now resume "normal" joystiq comments.

This looks better:

What about a control scheme whereby you move the Arwing with the D-pad and aim/target fire with the stylus?
