Win several ElementCase products in time for the holidays

I'm still rocking an old-school 3GS, so I'd go with the Formula. Thanks for the opportunity.

Fanswag: Fanboys Fight for The Darkness

Jun 25th 2007 5:01PM (Joystiq Xbox)
The 360 version of The Darkness is better than the PS3 version because...well, just because! Just kidding. Anyway, what hasn't been said already? It's a no-brainer. Force-feedback and Achievements would be two of the best examples. But furthermore, it's better because I've only got a 360, and not a PS3, so that automatically makes it better in my book!

GOW VGA fix makes VGA worse

Jan 11th 2007 1:57PM (Joystiq Xbox)
HEY! I'm just reading thru some of the previous posts, and I want to comment:

For those who have LCD WIDESCREEN monitors, please stop commenting! This problem only affects NON-WIDESCREEN LCDs (majority of them running 1280x1024 5:4 ratio). You're making the problem seem LESS worse than it really is, simply because you're not understanding the real problem!!!

GOW VGA fix makes VGA worse

Yeah, I have it too. I'm running a Dell 1704FPT 17" 5:4 LCD monitor. The jaggies are HORRIBLE! There's obviously no AA being applied to the image, which almost certainly is a 640x480 upsampled image (judging by the size of the jaggies). Funny thing is, if I set the 360 dashboard to 1280x1024 WIDESCREEN, the image on my monitor is vertically stretched (due to my auto-adjust only), but the anti-aliasing magically appears!

Mark Rein at Epic won't even acknowledge that a problem even exists, as far as the missing AA. This is very disturbing.

Rift widens between Silver and Gold XBLA memberships

Oct 30th 2006 6:57PM (Joystiq)
I don't play online games, so I could give a S**T about Gold accounts. I know I'm in the minority, but I am not about to pay $50 a year just so I can download trailers and demos! This is *advertising,* and we shouldn't have to pay. Don't be naive, folks. This is just the latest "experiment" in order for MS to maximize revenues. They're testing how much the market is willing to bear. I feel that this is the wrong approach, with Wii and PS3 online being pushed as "free," regardless of what the reality is for those services. Public perception is everything, and this will damage Live's competitiveness in the marketplace. The only thing I can think of is that MS will make more and more "exclusive," until there is nothing left, and Silvers will be forced to upgrade. As long as they get their 6 million Live Gold accounts, they don't care what we get out of it.

This is a gaming console, folks, not some glorified set-top box. That market died, but MS still holds the torch for controlling your living room. These are the first steps of that conquest.

You could be eating this Xbox 360 controller [update 1]

There was once a kid from New Jersey,
Who desired an Xbox 360,
His mother then asked "How about a Wii?"
The boy replied back "No Ma, I went already."
Shaking her head, Mom said "Okay, maybe a PS3."
To which the kid answered "I'd rather take another Wii!"

Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list updated

Aug 29th 2006 9:45PM (Joystiq)
I think the BC team has done a wonderful job, once you understand how they are tackling the problem. I believe it was a Major Nelson podcast, where someone on the BC team spelled it out. They are looking into ALL the titles, the multiplatform and generic (Barbie) games are simpler to emulate, so those get released earlier. They assure us that they are working on the "big" games, but those have lots of coding tricks to make it look good on the Xbox. The BC teams simply have to try everything to make it work. That takes time. They said sometimes they code something in one game and it "unlocks" the ability to emulate a whole bunch of other, simpler games that share similarities to the game they are working on at the time. Then those get released earlier too.

After Peter Moore's backpedaling over the BC comments he made, I don't think MS is going to make the mistake again of threatening cancelling the BC project. As it was pointed out, there are still new Xbox games being developed, and I think two of them are on the current BC list (Spyhunter: Nowhere to Run is one), so the BC program will be valuable to MS in the future. I agree that it will be in their best interest to carry over original Xbox games over to the 360's successor via BC emulation.

I never owned an Xbox, and I am catching up on all the BC titles on my 360, so I have great interest that they eventually get to all the titles. I think they will - eventually.
