Yeah, I've given up on this one. Finished the single-player, and traded the game in for store credit. I don't know what I'll spend the credit on, doesn't look like anything coming to 360 for some time...
But seriously, where does the patch go if you don't have HD? (I do have HD, just curious).
Sorry Joe, I have a 360 and neither PGR3 or CoD2 are 'killer apps.' PGR3 is a good-looking racer, and CoD2 was a lot of fun single-player. But the online in CoD2 is hopelessly crippled. In addition to being limited to 8 players, it's horribly laggy for no good reason. And to top it off it just got worse this weekend! There's a story on Kotaku about it:
Someone asked, what do I tell people asking about the PS3?
I just tell em that Sony's said Sping2006, but that's likely Japan, and to not expect it until Fall2006 here.
As for which is better, etc., we just tell people that's pretty hard to compare since the PS3 isn't actually out yet. Most people who bought 360's seem pretty happy, but because there hasn't been a lot of games there's not of buzz.
Everyone got off work and now heading to joystiq to post comments?
I work at a small (independent) game shop in Toronto. There was a lot of 360 buzz before Christmas, but almost none now. In addition to the failure to provide more consoles (what happened to 'weekly rollouts'?), we've seen a good number of pre-order cancellations.
But the big story that nobody seems to be talking about is: where are the games? When is the next batch of games coming? The next ones to be released are actually the ones that were postponed from XMas, didn't they have anything planned for February?
Anyway, if lots of units arrive, followed by a price cut, followed by some real games, then I could see the 360 generating some buzz. But, and I'm not kidding, I get asked twice as often "when's the PS3 shipping?" as I do "do you have any 360s?"
Honestly I think it's pretty silly to be comparing the 360 to the PS3 and saying that they 360 kicks it's ass.
Guess what? The PS3 hasn't shipped yet, and likely won't for many months. It's like comparing the Dreamcast to the PS2 in fall 1999 and saying, yeah, Crazy Taxi, this kicks the PS2's ass.
When PS3 ships we'll have a rough idea of it's potential, just as we now do with the 360. Obviously the launch titles on both systems won't be the best, but they do give us a rough 'ball park' idea of the system's power.
Because I already own a gaming PC, I have no interest in buying a 360 until they make an exclusive game for. (I play CoD2 on PC, don't have to pay for Live, use voice-chat, and the game supports 32 player multiplayer. CoD2 is the number one selling 360 title by far. Do you know how sad it is to get owned by PC on your launch? Anyway, not trying to be a hater, it's just a weak launch.)

Fight Night 360 K.O.'s current-gen contenders
Feb 7th 2006 3:20PM (Joystiq)The game looks good, the animation is a bit jumpy (ie not smooth), but it still looks pretty good.
Honestly I'll play the demo rather than pay for it. It's fun for a few minutes, but come on.

Sony declares "full-on assault" on Xbox Live

Carmack: Xbox 360 as id Software's "primary platform"
Jan 31st 2006 5:45PM (Joystiq)Take that PS3 and Revo fans!
We get Quake5 and Doom4!
Oh wait... Quake4 and Doom3 were total garbage.
The Doom3 can barely handle it's indoor scenes on a 6800GT.

I've given up on playing it online, will likely trade the game in. This isn't a killer app, it's a rushed product.
