Nielsen adds games to ratings matrix

Oct 18th 2006 4:07PM (Joystiq)
I was a Nielson family last February during sweeps. I asked my friends what shows they wanted us to "watch" that week, so that they wouldn't get Firefly'd. I "had ten people over" to watch The Office that week.. wink wink. :) I believe statisticians call that the observer effect-- the person being studied acts differently to attempt to influence the findings of the study.

It was an interesting experience, I went into some more details on my blog (click the link on my name below to go to that post, if you're interested in reading).

BOOM! Worst player in Madden '07 responds

Oct 16th 2006 11:13AM (Joystiq)
I'm not a Madden player, so could someone explain how being ranked 53 is the worst in the NFL? There are more than 53 people on each team in real football. Is this supposed to read "Worst on the Redskins"? Or am I missing the point?

Logitech fills lightweight PS3 pad with air

At least it's not forty dollars for the controllers, and a separate twenty dollar purchase for the fans.

Relive youth with GoldenEye Source trailer

"You might even be able to download the original on the Wii"

I think I remember reading that none of the Rare games (Goldeneye, DKC, KI, Banjo-Kazooie, Diddy Kong Racing, and I can't think of any others) will be coming to virtual console. Something about non-compete clause since they are a 2nd party for MS now.

Guitar Hero coming to multiple new platforms

Sep 21st 2006 10:19AM (Joystiq)
"how on earth would you play a guitar with that remote?? unless your willing to splash out another $40 on a controller"

The idea is that the Wiimote would somehow attach to the guitar, using the expansion port the nunchuck attaches to. Then the guitar wouldn't need to have a tilt sensor or a wire, and theoretically could be cheaper.

As for the $40 thing, if you bought the game with a guitar it was only $70, so the guitar really only cost you $20, which doesn't seem bad.

I'm certainly hoping to see this on the Wii, because I don't have a PS2 and I'm not getting a PS3 and I'm not getting a 360 until the price drops. But I really want to play Guitar Hero.

Three-tiered Mario mushroom cake amazes

Nice! I hope the mushroom still tastes good when they eat it a year from now... :)

The only Wii post you'll ever need [update 3]

Sep 15th 2006 2:17PM (Joystiq)
Anyone know if the A/V cable will be the same as the one they used on SNES/N64/GC? I don't see any reason why they'd change that.. And what about component cables, will the GC component cables work on the Wii?

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess FAQ

"The game now allows an OPTION (read: not required) that gives the player freestyle control [of the sword]."

Link is left-handed, but the wiimote resides in your right hand. Think it'll make any difference? I've not heard anyone mention it...

"Having to travel the cosmos while balancing the problems inherent to light speed travel would be incredible. Simply having a game where dealing with gravitational forces of true scale planets would be incredible."

I think you are describing Mario Galaxy.

Just kidding. :)

The final Omegathon challenge was ... [update 1]

"Hey, does anyone know what kinda bean bags they had on hand there? anyone try them out? I am looking for some kick ass bean bags and those look class"

That would be a comment from someone who works for/is paid by Sumo! http://www.sumolounge.com/

In "the biz" we call such a person a "shill" or "plant" http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/01/25 (read more from the news posts that day and the next few days after for more info)

Of course, if those bean bags came with the hot blonde girl from their site, I'd buy them by the dozen. I would wreck that chick.
