False positive by Norton forces some Firefox users to reinstall after 3.6.6 update

Jun 30th 2010 2:12PM (Download Squad)
Back in the DOS days, Norton software was decent. In the last ten years or so, it just seems bloated and can cause more problems than it solves.

Magic: The Gathering on deck for Steam

Is it still the case that there's no ability to customize your deck? If so, I think I'll pass, even though I sorta miss playing MTG every once in awhile ...

YouSendIt is the only way to transfer files across the Internet -- review, and mammoth give-away

I've used YouSendIt in the past, it's worked well for me!

ExtensionFM is the first killer extension for Google Chrome OS (and it's not even here yet)

That's a cool idea and all ... and for someone using it at work at a job where they are using their web browser all day and where they don't have access to their own music ... or if you really wanted to stream songs on your phone ... I guess it might be useful ...

But in addition to what scott pointed out above ... I already have literally 1000's of legal songs on my computer. I can just use a media player application so I can listen to them even when I don't have my browser open. And since this app sounds like it constantly streams the songs from websites, this would waste a LOT of bandwidth; both my own personal bandwidth and that of the sites the songs are stored on.

'Gang of Six' browsers petition EU for immediate review of Browserchoice screen

Mar 5th 2010 1:46PM (Download Squad)
The problem seems to be, how do you decide which browsers get on the screen at all? Ex, what makes Flock's browser worthy of the list but not Joe Blow's Fabutastic Browser (fictional)? There's necessarily going to have to be a limit/choice there.

The Book Depository offers free worldwide shipping for paper books

Feb 16th 2010 12:52PM (Download Squad)
Yup apparently Book Depository has been around for years, but I only learned about them recently. I love Amazon, but since I live in Canada I'm forced to choose between Amazon.com (great selection & prices, but high shipping costs) or Amazon.ca (free shipping, but much poorer selection/availability and often higher prices).

So I tried ordering from Book Depository recently and was satisfied by their service. One surprise re shipping was that they shipped each of the three books I ordered in separate packages! Coincidentally this morning I received the first of the four books in my second order. So I don't know how they do it but they actually ship your books separately which means you don't have to wait for all of them to be ready before your order ships.

Thumbs up from me! Although for some books (if you don't mind used copies) Abebooks.com can still be cheaper!

NetFront Browser v4.0 for Windows Mobile promises faster JavaScript

Jan 17th 2010 5:31PM (Download Squad)
Is slow Javascript really that big of a problem? I mean, I don't recall ever being at a website, and thinking, "Oh man, this Javascript is soooooo slow."

All the new browsers seem to trumpet how fast their JS is though, so I imagine there must be some noticeable benefit?
