Obamas Choose "Avant-Garde" Art for the White House

Oct 9th 2009 10:14AM (Shelterpop)
These comments make me weep for our nation. When exactly did Edward Degas and Mark Rothko (some of the finest artists in the last few centuries) become trashy and unamerican?

Also, no money was "wasted" (ugh) on these. Paintings are bought by private collectors. They then loan then to museums. The collector, along with the museum are allowed to loan them to other museums or collectors, like, oh say, the White House. It said these are on loan from the Hirschorn & the National Gallery.

Instead of resorting to racial slurs and name calling from your computer, try visiting a museum every once in awhile and learning about the culture of the country you live in.

Just say no to pushy game retailers

I had an employee at EB games outright LIE to me and told me in order to buy my DS Lite, I had to buy their "bundle" which was the DS plus two games. I was going to buy it and one game anyhow, so I shrugged it off and bought two games with it.

After buying them, I looked at the receipt and realized that I hadn't gotten a price discount on anything, and called their customer service line to ask which "bundle" I'd got. I got a really surprised customer service representative who told me that EB wasn't offering DS Lite bundles.

They outright *lied* to me to get me to buy an extra game. I sent a letter to corporate (with no response) and complained to the district manager who said he'd 'talk with them'. Two days later, I got an weak apology phone call from the manager, who also took that time to ask if I wanted to preorder some game. I hung up on him at that point.

Would you like a DS with those Swarovski crystals?

Aug 30th 2006 4:09PM (Joystiq)
Nice - that's actually a copyrighted pattern by the company that originated the Swarovski crystalled phones, sidekicks & game systems, NYC Peach that that Japanese designer is using without permission. NYC Peach did all of the ones you see in the NYC Nintendo Store window, along with all of the celebrity PSP's you see iced out.
