Sony refuses to cut PSP price, DS continues to own planet

Nov 14th 2006 11:54AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Alisha, you think Nintendo is the cat's meow in terms of their business model - that they're taking gaming in 'new directions' with technology that's decades old... That's fine, but some of us prefer not to have to wade through the 'witty sniping' you steep your articles with. It's fanboyish and immature.

I've developed games for the Gameboy and SNES in the past. Nintendo's no angel in terms of their biz practices, believe me.

You go ahead and tout unsupported 'facts' like how PSP gamers are relegated to music and video because the games aren't compelling... Those of us who know better will continue to say otherwise.

DS taking Time's Gadget of the Year race by storm

The two pinnacle groups in aggro brand bias, the Apple freaks and Nintendo fanboys. Now THAT's a contest!

NPD October: DS leading the upsurge in gaming

Nov 14th 2006 11:22AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Except that it's not simply graphics (PSP) vs. gameplay (DS).

IGN latest round of reviews for PSP:
9.0+ = 4
8.0-8.9 = 13

IGN latest round of reviews for the DS:
9.0+ = 1
8.0-8.9 = 5

Metacritic 'Upcoming & Recent' ratings for PSP:
90+ = 0
80+ = 10
Total: 90+

Metacritic 'Upcoming & Recent' ratings for DS:
90+ = 0
80+ = 5 (one of which is the 4th ed. of Nintendogs)

Also, NPD as has been said many times, doesn't handle online sales. When polled, Best Buy had this Top 10 list for 10/29-11/04 (note the PSP vs. DS shocker):

1). Madden NFL 07 PS2
2). Final Fantasy XII PS2
3). Madden NFL 07 XBOX
4). GTA: Vice City Stories PSP
5). Brain Age: Train Your Brain DS
6). Madden NFL 07 PSP
7). Marvel Ultimate Alliance 360
8). Marvel Ultimate Alliance PS2
9). Need for Speed Carbon PS2
10). New Super Mario Bros. DS

Lastly, I'm constantly thrilled with the amazingly short memories and hypocrisy of the Nintendo fanatics. Much was made about how the Gamecube was the graphically superior system over the PS2 back in the day (and since then, too). But now? Graphics suddenly don't matter - not only that, but it's a sure sign your games must SUCK if you even mention how good the graphics are. Hilarious.

"the least graphically superior console is always the most popular"

This was not always the case. Genesis had arguably inferior overall potential as it lacked Mode 7 and variable tile palettes. The TG-16 was behind the Genesis/SNES power/graphics curve. PS1 games that focused on texture mapping looked better than some N64 games... Etc.

Metareview: Final Fantasy III (update 1)

Disappointed. Metacritic score of 76... What Gamespot fanboys would call a 'flop'.

But hey, it's being better received than Children of Mana!

Nintendo doing what Nintendo does best - pandering to kids and the secondary collector market. No wonder they're partnered with McDonald's.

Scarface shows PSP software sales are lacking

Nov 12th 2006 6:16PM (Joystiq Playstation)
suicide ninja hates Sony and loathes the PSP. Ignore the troll. You can't just throw $50 at a DS and do what you can on a PSP by any stretch of a fanboy's imagination. His views on media and the value of the games is worth less than the lamest UMD video.

As for the sales, again, I just don't care. The system is two years old and has some hands-down excellent games. The DS is a kid phenom with its astronomical Pokemon sales, and let's face it, those games are garbage anymore. There was some RPGness appeal to the early ones, but by now that cow has been milked dry (much like the other Nintendo franchises). If the publishers bail on the PSP for the coming year, oh well. It had a good run... But the thing is, there's ZERO evidence of that happening at this point, so why worry about it, now?

Oh right, because 70% of the people who post here are Nintendo trolls bent on making Sony and the PSP look as bad as possible.

Peter Dille calls DS for kids in Engadget interview

Nov 10th 2006 8:30PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I'm with you, Jeff. I like both - own and play both. All the screaming by the PSP bashers is hilarious. I'd say the DS bashers are equally laughable, but there's maybe one of those for every two dozen PSP haters.

Fact remains, Dille didn't say or imply that the DS was 'exclusively for kids'. Gameslave, here's all I have to say to you at this point:

"BUT DON'T YOU DARE DO THAT WHILE IGNORING THE REST OF THE POST"

...I believe a LOL is in order.

Would Sony eliminate PSP features?

Nov 9th 2006 6:05PM (Joystiq Playstation)
"I thought they had mostly moved away from the pesky 'video game' thing anyways."

Yeah, like the DS and all the cooking, brain training, etc.

Troll.

Peter Dille calls DS for kids in Engadget interview

Nov 9th 2006 5:42PM (Joystiq Playstation)
You two bitch and whine about ME taking your quoted statements out of context and then do the exact thing to this Sony interview. NOWHERE DID THE GUY SAY THE DS IS ONLY FOR KIDS. END OF SUBJECT. Yes, he used the phrase 'kid machine', but when you take the piece as a whole and everything else he said, his meaning is clear. The DS is more for kids than the PSP - and that's an indisputable fact.

"But keeping your head under the sand about the numbers"

Nice try, but NOWHERE did I dispute the fact that the DS is outselling the PSP. I said that the implications of the comment are useless when couched in the fanboyism of waffle, you and all the other PSP hating Nintendo freaks. You're all such hypocrites, it's astonishing. You exaggerate tone/intent, selectively pluck facts at will while tossing the rest, then accuse others of the same thing - even when they're not. Wow.

As for the backpack analogy, yes, you could get scratches on a PSP screen by tossing it into a backpack while a closed DS Lite would not. It doesn't mean the PSP is 'more fragile' - it means the screen is exposed. And even if you did abuse it, you can always replace the face (and back) with aftermarket shells.

"He replied and quoted me like this: "you'll see two things everywhere: people replacing their analog nubs with DualShock 2 analog sticks"

I didn't misquote you - I trimmed the coin part out because gosh, there's limited enough room for these epic length posts as it is. Your message was clear enough: People are unhappy with the analog and d-pad that analog-replacements/d-pad-coin mods are "everywhere" if you google PSP mods, meaning the problem is so BAD that lots and lots of people are doing it (which is utter bullshit).

Now you tell me if that wasn't what you were saying. Because damn, I do SO want to have NICE conversations with vocal, hypocritical, self-contradicting Nintendo trolls. If you lot thought I wasn't nice, I just don't think I could bear it.
