Here's why most people buy the Wii...it's accessible, easy to play, less expensive and fun. If you don't want that, then don't buy it...it's simple.
Another reason: Invite some family or friends over. Get a game of Wii sports going...and you sit back and watch what happens...you may understand then why it's in such demand. And even then, if you still don't want it...your choice.
On the topic of this article, I've never read PC World, but it strikes me odd that a PC magazine would list game consoles on their "most innovative" product list.
It's not a full-fledged recall. It's a choice...if you like playing the Wii with arms flailing about and swinging madly, then order the replacement straps...if not, you should be fine with the straps you have.
Why is this being extrapolated into Nintendo is Jeebus or Nintendo sux?
Meh...lost interset in the game. Video was wicked cool though. Tried to get back into it, but just recently cancelled the account. Kudos to those who still have fun in the game...I'm not one of you.
Some of us hardcore like to flail around a bit. I'm always up and about in WiiBoxing, but I'm not going all nutty with it, like some people in those youtube boxing videos...though they are pretty funny!
It's the nature of the beast...it's just more fun to actually stand up and play the thing...my friends look like douchebags when they try to play it all cool and not get up from the couch. Reversal of fortunes!
Love this thing. Just picked it up on Monday with Zelda. Got the last one at the Montgomery Mall EB in Bethesda, Maryland. Setup was painless and had no problems connecting to the internet...sometimes it takes awhile to connect, but it does eventually do it. Blue light is a sexay beast! I sent myself a test email, got home...blue light goodness...ahhhh...
Wii Sports is a great pack-in title. Multiplayer tennis, golf, and bowling are a blast. Baseball is wonky. Boxing is awesome! Controls aren't perfect, but when they do work, it's really satisfying! Nice little workout too :-)
Zelda...about 6 hours in...slow, but solid start...starting to really pick up. Love the art style on a lot of the denizens of Hyrule. Midna's great and I love conversing with chickens and frogs :-) I swear one of the chickens was hitting on me...Wiimote controls feel tacked on in the beginning, but once you get used to them, it's really fluid. Great stuff and it's looking to be amazing in the long run.
I do think the tone of the article is leaning towards, "We're glad the bastard got shot". Yeah, he's an eBay scalper...I don't like the practice, but in a free market economy, what's to stop him? There's nothing illegal about it. Instead of criticizing him, criticize the nutjobs that actually buy these systems on eBay at insane mark-ups. He didn't deserve to get shot for wanting to sell them.
Admittedly, the controls aren't spot on like the other games, but it's still mad fun! It helps if you make slower motions...still trying to figure out the uppercut...I know you can do it...
I really don't think they need a huge mass-marketing campaign for this. The hardcore know about it and articles like this, the Time magazine article from last year, I think...retailers putting the system on their best-of holiday lists...it's free advertising.
Hell, it's so different from the competition that it's getting love from CNBC (I think it was CNBC). Reggie was on yesterday afternoon, going over launch details and why Nintendo thinks it'll sell out, etc...all this while the interviewer was playing WiiSports (she was playing tennis).
You make something as off the wall as this, you'll get free press. Seems to be working rather well. Agreed though that certain games do need some mass market exposure, especially those they want to sell off to the non-gamer crowd.
Curious...is Mario going to have any presence aside from the Virtual Console during Launch? I think if they do mass-market, the VC is one feature they should definetly plug, as the controller has been getting the most exposure.
