Sep 21st 2006 5:54PM (Joystiq)It's not that MGS4 is coming out a year after the console's release that is bad, it's its timing relative to that of the 360's releases. While you're correct in that Halo 3 will be coming out far later in the console's life cycle, it really is irrelevant because, for much of that cycle, there hasn't been any next-gen competition. Now, Sony is forced to wait to fire one of its big guns at the same time Microsoft will launch their own. It's a missed opportunity by Sony to strike while the iron is hot and have an AAA killer app before Microsoft truly does.

Joyswag: A Castle Crashers tee for your thoughts
Sep 10th 2006 5:24PM (Joystiq)As a fan of the original Golden Axe and X-Men beat-em-up games, I've been dying to see new games in this genre and am so glad to see this appearing on XBLA. And while these types of games usually lack depth (let's hope the levelling system in Castle Crashes addresses this), they make up for it with their accessibility -- which is a perfect fit for XBLA.
As long as they take this open accessibility and run with in the form of a local and online co-op, Behemoth can count me in for upwards of $20. Games like this scream for this sort of social play, so without it, I'd honestly be unlikely to pick it up at all.
I do have one very minor gripe, though: half of the character colors don't completely match their respective elements. The green and blue work just fine (poison and ice, I believe), but having red be lightning while orange wields flame seems odd to me. It would be more natural, I'd argue, for red to be flame and for lightning to be represented by a yellow character. Not only will switching these colors to more traditional patterns ease any confusion, they will also differentiate the characters more (when I played, I constantly mistook the orange character for my own red character because the colors are similar, especially when the game gets heated and the screen becomes packed).
That said, I'm really looking forward to this. And with Lumines, Symphony of the Night, Alien Hominid and this coming down the pipe, I'm stoked for future months with XBLA.
Saving yourself while killing zombies
Aug 31st 2006 5:13PM (Joystiq)"Having a single save file on a console game is unforgiveable nowadays. I suspect that most households with gamers have more than one person who wants to play a game, and forcing each of them to have their own memory card is just stupid."
It's not quite this bad, actually. As it turns out, each profile has only a single save file, which means multiple people can have a game save on the same console at the same time.
Still not perfect (IMO), but I just wanted to clear that up.
