I'm pretty sure why they are so non-plussed: I guarantee the content will already be on the disk, the purchase will just unlock it. Why else would 3 songs be available on Day 1? It is pretty easy to not be concerned with storage space when all you are storing is a line of code or two.

Actually if you look at the picture on this post on the right it says "Enter Friend Code" and has 12 digits, the Wii Code is 16 digits. Seems like confirmation to me that Smash has a game specific code.
