That's not how it works. When you work QA, at least at Sony, you don't get to do anything else. You strap a controller to your hands and test, test, test.
You don't get a chance to do anything to display other skills you may have. There is no programming to do, no art to contribute. You're expected to find bugs in games. That's it.
If you have a talent, you're best bet is to skip becoming a tester and apply to a company that is actively looking for someone with your skillset.

Sep 3rd 2009 5:01PM (Joystiq)Sorry but the type of game you're on doesn't dictate your pay.
I QA-ed Resistance, Splinter Cell, pretty much every PS3 launch title, Star Wars: Battle Front, and just about every good PSP game.
Rate of pay? 12/hour.

Sep 3rd 2009 4:43PM (Joystiq)So...you get a 12/hour contracted job. Right before the rush of submissions for Christmas releases.
Sony QA is fun. But the hours are long, the pay dismal. And of course, you'll be let go at the end of your contract.
Good luck!
Video: Brutal Legend soundtrack makes everything metal
Aug 10th 2009 8:14PM (Joystiq)T'would be sweet if there was a new Tenacious D song on the soundtrack as well. Although I can't hate on Master Exploder and The Metal
