Worst of the Worst: 'Batman: The Widening Gyre' #6

Aug 21st 2010 9:32PM (ComicsAlliance)
I don't know a shit-ton about Batman, but even knowing as little as I do about the character, his every line of dialogue in this comic rang false to me. It didn't come off true to the character. Batman is supposed to be this guy who is so consumed by his mission that he doesn't really know how to interact with anyone on a personal level, but Smith has Batman talking and acting like a character from straight out of one of his movies.

This comic was an abortion. The story sucked, the art sucked, the dialogue sucked. It was all just really, really terrible stuff. Made me feel dirty for reading it. I'm a fan of Smith's, but even as such, I couldn't stand this comic. It was just terrible from start to finish. Ugh.

GameStop: Used game buyers uninterested in free DLC

Mar 21st 2010 4:11PM (Joystiq)
Sure, it's your choice to sell your games if you want to, but you ought to be cognizant of the effects that your choice has on the industry just the same. You can shrug your shoulders and act dismissive about the implications of that choice, but you're only fooling yourself.

Now that's not to say that you need to stop selling your games. No, I just don't think it's right that you and others like you act so dismissive about the problem just so that you can continue to contribute to it with a clear consciense. Whether or not you're willing to admit it to yourselves, the used game market is a threat.

'Ultimate X' - Now With Less Edward Cullen Sulking, More Rage

Turns out that it's Wolverine's son. And man, when you read Ultimate X #1, you will crap yourself. But not in a good way. It's bad, save Art Adam's typically awesome artwork.

Square Enix pulls the trigger on Chrono Trigger fan projects

@ Rob Bourne

Wow, you're sure of it? You have no idea what went on behind the scenes, but you're going to make assumptions anyway since it allows you to vilify an entire company. Brilliant.

I think you folks would be well served to consider that Square never gave anybody the rights, implied or otherwise, to alter their games or to use their copyrighted materials to make derivative works. It's really that simple. What Valve does or doesn't do is irrelevant.

Joystiq Review: Resident Evil 5

Yeah, it's a deal in which you trade in games that, even if you bought them used, you probably payed 55 bucks for. But eh, you get twenty bucks in trade each, so I guess that's something....

Sony: PS3 'keeps entertainment simple,' 360 and Wii don't

Jan 9th 2009 5:54PM (Joystiq)
The average consumer isn’t going to buy a PS3 just because Sony spammed their inboxes with a bullet-point comparison between it and its competition, unless they were already inclined to buy it in the first place. And if they were so-inclined, then it’s because they saw something of value in the PS3 that they didn’t see in the other two. And more power to ‘em.

Now I know why Sony cares about this. It’s just good business sense to do whatever you think you need to in order to attract customers. But why do the rest of you care? Is it because you’re worried that if you don’t talk up your favored console or defend it from naysayers that it might not do as well as you think it deserves to? Well have I’ve got news for you!. Those people that you’re trying to appeal to here, and on every other public forum related to videogames that you frequent? They don’t give a damn. They’ve already made up their minds, and moreover, they’re too busy spending their time trying to convince you why your choice was a bad one to bother listening to anything you have to say anyway. And the people who you’d probably be marginally better served to turn your evangelism towards? They don’t hang around here. They’re out there, making their purchasing decisions based on what appeals to them like a good consumer should, rather than based on some warped sense of brand fealty. So even if all of this wasn’t just typical fan-boy bullshit, it would still be completely pointless.

So again I ask you why. Why do you people care? Why can’t you just be happy with whatever console you have, and let the sales speak for themselves if it really matters that much to you? The only effect you had on the console war one way or the other both began and ended when you bought your favorite game box, so all this petty arguing and dick waving about which system is best serves no other purpose than to put the rest of us off to the hobby. We’re tired of it. We’re done. Maybe it’s time you gave it a rest.

So please grow the hell up and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks about the console you decided to back this generation, would you? It’s not going to stop being appealing to you just because some douche-bag says it sucks, so save yourself the time and energy that you waste typing furious rebuttals at your keyboard. And while you’re at it, why not take the opportunity to get back in touch with why you started playing games in the first place? You know, the games? The ones that with the exception of first-party exclusives, can be played on just about every console under the sun these days? Lord knows you’d probably have more time. And hell, you might find yourself enjoying the hobby at large once more! It’s all about the games, people. So to borrow a phrase from D-Toid, shut the f**k up and just play games already.

Nintendo conference video reveals one billion new games

Oct 2nd 2008 10:15AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Punch out!, eh? I'm sold. Seriously, that tiny snippet of gameplay I saw looked pretty rad, so it couldn't possibly release soon enough as far as I'm concerned. Bring it on, Nintendo!

Wii Fanboy Review: Mega Man 9

Sep 28th 2008 3:37PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
@ Andy

You're definitely right about the smoking thing. I fired this baby up and defeated two robot masters, but I hit a brick wall after that. I guess I got lucky with those first two choices, but it seemed like after that I couldn't even get to a boss, much less beat another one. I think I went through half a pack of smokes trying. I eventually had to quit playing for the night, but damn if I didn't love every single hardcore second. But yeah, I smoked way more while playing this game than I usually do over the course of a day.

I picked it back up a couple of days later, and somehow managed to beat another four bosses. Magma Man stands out in particular, because I either didn't have the right weapon when I got to him, or I just forgot to try out all of the ones I did have to see which one worked. I had to defeat him with my mega-buster, which wasn't too difficult actually.
I managed to get him in a pattern in which he'd do a short hop over me, and then I'd turn around and hit him with a few shots, at which point he'd hop back over me in the other direction, and I'd repeat the pattern over again. The angle I was at made it easy to avoid his shots just by standing in place.
It was really exhilarating once I beat him. I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment that I hadn't felt since I was 7 and beat Megaman 2, despite my gamer-grandma warning me that the game might be out of my league.

I friggin' love this game. That it even exists is sort of a minor miracle, even though Capcom sort of put the design down to necessity. It's clever, it's well made, and it hits every note of nostalgia. It's great. I hope this game leads to further retro-revivals.

DOH-pad: A visit with MK vs. DC on Xbox 360

Sep 25th 2008 2:44PM (Joystiq)
Really guys? The preview is too negative for your blood? I'm guessing that's more down to how you chose to perceive it more than anything, which in turn reflects on your mind-set.

I think that what we're really dealing with here is a preview that didn't hit all the notes you were expecting it to, or did, but wasn't as enthusiastic about the game as you might have been. However, rather than accept that we're all individuals with our own opinions, you just go on about how the writer is at fault for failing to live up to whatever insane expectations you think he ought to have just mystically known to live up to. You know, despite the fact that he's not you, and that you'd probably shit yourselves if someone dared to treat you like you're treating the writer if you found yourself in his shoes.

This all has to be a joke.

Yawn: Ubisoft bringing Protöthea to WiiWare

Yeah I sort of agree, except Konami made Twinbee, not Capcom.
