Well, when someone says something true that could discredit you, it's only natural to try to discredit that individual (or organization). G4tv would have been better offer accepting the criticism and learning from it. Although I'm sure that whomever writes the blog has absolutely no power over what programming airs. And I'm also sure that G4tv doesn't have the capital or resources to reformat their programming to better suit their target audience. Also, their target audience is so small and their channel appears in so few homes that trying to reach them would prove to be their demise.
I don't think so. I think even if the DS was only accepted by gamers, then all sorts of gamers would jump on board. I believe the same to be true for Wii.
I think that non-gamers realistically have to be the next market to shoot for. MS is taking their steps and doing it quite well with the XBL casual games. The problem they still face is the casual gamers forking out that pricetag for a 360. However, the folks at Nintendo are old pros at this. They caused quite a few people to start playing video games and purchasing console system some 25 years ago. Nintendo is set to do this again. With all that we've seen of the new systems so far, Nintendo is the only company that seems to understand what it takes to get those who don't play to buy a system.
The same goes for the DS. Nintendo has been putting out portable for quite some time now and they know what their portable needs to have in order push units. Like we've heard some folks at Sega say, never underestimate Nintendo.
I'm all about this movie. I've been a fan of TMNT since I was a child. Remakes are all the rage right now and it looks like this one is doing it right. This really should be an easy project, it's pretty hard to get this movie wrong. Let's hope for the best.
While we're talking about movies instead of games. There is always little bits of rumors and information about a Zelda movie that pop up from time to time on the internet. Has anyone heard anything about it lately? A Zelda movie would be hard to pull off as most movies based on games are. However the fan base for a Zelda movie would be over critical and nit-picky and I imagine would need several billion dollars and at least ten years to get everything right. As long as it doesn't turn out as cheesy as the Super Mario Bros. movie.
I would say that Joystiq is part of the problem, but they would probably just give me another negative star.
Seriously though, GameDaily are the ones who lack originality, they are the ones in the sad state. This is obviously just another attempt to use what Chuck Klosterman said about video game critics to get more people to read what they write. Writing an article that criticizes video game reviewers in general when you review video games is just a tactic. They want us to think that because they wrote this article that they are dedicated to improving the process and they want us to think that we can trust them as a reviewer so that we visit their site. Basically what they're doing is compared to saying, "I'm not racist, I have lots of black friends"
I can't wait until gaming news gets out of the summer funk so that we don't have to read silly things like Game Daily criticizing their peers.
First, there are those who go out and buy it just because it's the newest offering from Nintendo. I think this number especially on the portable front is on the incline.
Secondly, price comparison to competition. Nintendo really doesn't get that much competition in the portable market. Their biggest probably being the Sega game gear (which I still play mine). The simple facts that their was something to compare it to. The PSP coming out around the same time with a higher price tag and not much of an offering gamewise made the DS look like a good buy. Also, to a lesser extent, the N gage (on it's last legs), was an example of what not to do.
Third, was "WOW" factor. Wow, this isn't like the normal gaming devices we're used to. Wow, this may actually change the way we play games from here on out. Wow, how do they put all of that into something that fits into my pocket.
Most importantly however is the games. Nintendo started throwing out games that has new ways to play and new twists on old standards and games people actually were getting excited about trying. While Nintendo did this the only thing we saw from the compeition was ports and sub par ports at that. Same control configuration that we've been playing playstation games on for what, 10 years now. That and Sony wanted us to buy and re-buy movies in a format that we could only use to watch them on a screen smaller than my hand, while we hold it still, for the entire length of the movie.
i understand why some of you are getting mad at Nintendo. Still, there is a process. There are a certain number units that must be reported effected before Nintendo can do anything about this. You'll see this in any industry. The truth is that the problem could be due to use a bit more excessive than it can handle.
I guess I can calmly take this side because my DS lite doesn't have the crack. I personally always worry that my big meaty paws are going to break that tiny plastic thing. Until it happens however, I guess I'll just remain careful with it.
Everyone's doing the right thing by reporting it. I hope everything gets worked out.

How important are first-party games to Wii?
