Forza 2 demo zooms/drives/careens onto Xbox Live
May 10th 2007 9:59AM (Joystiq)And this may be nitpicking, but if they are going to go for close ups of the cars during the replays it is hugely noticeable how many logos are a little lower res. It's kinda jarring.
Is Wii less powerful than Xbox One? N'Gai investigates
May 9th 2007 6:58PM (Joystiq)I think you go it spot on FrankTheCrank.
If you look at it from a numbers point of view there's a good chance that the PS3 will outsell the 360 over the life of the console purely becaus eof the poor 360 sales in Japan, and the Wii looks like trashing the 10million MS have shipped/sold pretty quickly.
That leaves MS in third place.
The original Xbox came in 2nd against Sony/Nintendo - to come in third this time would be a serious defeat.
If MS can sway any of those potential customers who are sat on the fence regarding their next console purchase they will do anything they can to tarnish the competition.
Not that it should matter to any of us GAMERS though. I'll continue to play my Wii and 360, and when the PS3 becomes better value for money and if their exclusives look good I'll pick one of those up.
Moore: Don't focus on Xbox 360 failure, focus on repair
May 8th 2007 6:13PM (Joystiq)I was willing to believe that all the complaining about broken 360's was nothing more than people not taking good care of their stuff, and an overzealous internet ready to blow anything and everything out of proportion.
As someone who DOES take care of their stuff (I still have an original PS2, Atari 2600, Binatone the list goes on and on), but I'm now on my third 360.
The support I've received in the UK from MS has been great. Very efficient and fast turn around.
But to state that we should focus on the treatment we get suggests to me that:
a) It's cheaper for MS to handle returns than to invest in more robust production methods
b) They possibly benefit from a 'climate of fear' and sell more extended warranties to people worried their machines will break.
Note: Luckily I bought the extended warranty direct from MS in the UK. Cost about £39.99 for 5 years. Considering my 2nd failure occurred outside of the standard 1 year warranty period I count myself lucky that this is the first console I've ever taken the extended warranty out on.
Too Human's Denis Dyack: games need to be shorter
May 3rd 2007 6:59PM (Joystiq)If I get an RPG and the main story line takes less than 40 hours it better be a damn good RPG!
Gears of War was waaaay too short, to the point where I felt disappointed and annoyed when I completed it. I had no inclination to replay it, or even take it online as I just felt ripped off.
However, at the moment I'm playing God of War 2. I'm about 8 hours in, and if it ended right now I'd be fine with that as 99% of the game so far has been an absolute joy - interesting story and great game play.
Sounds to me like Dyack needs to get Too Human out soon so he can fill the bank up with funds to start making Too Human 2 (or a load of downloadable content which 'they didn't have time' to put in the retail version).
I'm 50/50 with his comment about making games self contained, but either way, using LotR as an example is really dumb.
I can see what he's getting at. It would have been tough watching The Return of the King if you hadn't seen The Fellowship of the Ring. The last thing Dyack wants to do is make Too Human 2 inaccessible unless you have played the first one. However if you are going to make a trilogy of games then it's nice to have some minor plot threads carry over alongside the main story arc.
D3 brings Puzzle Quest and friends to XBLA
May 1st 2007 12:08PM (Joystiq)I'd be tempted to pick this up again on XBLA just for the multiplayer modes.
New games this week: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl edition
Apr 23rd 2007 4:46PM (Joystiq)It's not a port.
Screenshots on IGN show a different kinda environment, and their play test claimed 'everything has changed'. Even the card duelling mechanics. Not sure I'm happy or not about that, will reserve judgement until the European release...
Freakonomics and Wii at Best Buy tomorrow
Apr 22nd 2007 6:26AM (Joystiq)Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I'll return my Wii right away!! I just wish you'd have said this earlier, then I could have saved myself some money.
I didn't realise Mario, Zelda, Metroid and all those other titles I've enjoyed on the last few generations of Nintendo hardware were not for ME!
I'm more than happy to pay Nintendo for a Wii and experience what will undoubtedly be some of the best games of the generation (Just as I was happy to give Microsoft money for the 360, and eventually Sony when there's more 'must have' titles on the PS3)
Quality over quantity is fine by me!
Freakonomics and Wii at Best Buy tomorrow
Apr 21st 2007 8:00PM (Joystiq)You may want to try this... http://www.wiigamereviews.co.uk/
It tracks Wii stock at many retailers in the UK.
I dunno how good it is but it's currently showing Comet as having some hugely expensive Wii bundles available!!
Freakonomics and Wii at Best Buy tomorrow
Apr 21st 2007 7:47PM (Joystiq)How can you say 'profits are suffering'. Surely you can't miss what you don't have - the worst case is that Nintendo could potentially be making more profit; and considering they have upped their estimated profits for the year twice I don't think that's the definition of suffering.
It's not like Nintendo are holding back stock - they are selling everything they make as fast as the make it - so your argument of 'make more' is pretty thin, responding to massive demand takes a bit of time. I'm sure Nintendo have done the math and worked out the cost of creating production partnerships compared to their projected sales (I believe they are looking at new partnerships from what I've read).
Plus it never hurts to leave the audience wanting more!! :) It may be impossible to quantify, but not having units on shelves can drive up demand - it makes the product desirable; and to suggest Nintendo increase the price is just rubbish.
Freakonomics and Wii at Best Buy tomorrow
Apr 21st 2007 7:37PM (Joystiq)Not sure about that. Wii's are still really hard to find in the UK.
I've been keeping an eye open for a Wii as my buddy wants one. The four retailers I went to today had no stock and were not sure when the next delivery was coming.
Same issue online as well, just checked three retailers all are out of stock.
