Just wanted to comment (amidst all the flamewars), that I have a first-gen 360 that has allowed me to play through the entire campaign with no issues. Been through one round of firefight just to see what it was like (I like to finish the campaign before I dive into multiplayer...)

Love the game for something new...don't know if it'll be getting any GOTY awards, but it's definitely a solid game, and worth a buy just for the campaign, let alone all the other "goodies", imo.

Best Buy bringing value priced all-in-one 32-inch LCD & Blu-ray HDTV to stores "soon"

I know what you're trying to say when you say "cheap is good" ... but I am REALLY struggling to think of an instance where that's true. Cheap means something was sacrificed to get it cheap...and that "something" is almost always "quality". It may be cheap now, but if it breaks down in two years, you're paying twice as much once you replace it than if you had bought something NICE for a little more money the first time around. [/my two cents]

Now Playing: September 14-20, 2009

So much love for my old DS phat this week...got to have Scribblenauts, and Mario & Luigi will get picked up (even if it isn't until Christmas). Thankfully not a whole lot else trips my trigger this week, because I have an expensive few months coming up (I can't even start to think about 2010 yet). Uncharted 2, ODST, new Fat Princess maps, Brutal Legend, Modern Warfare 2 (just as a few off the top of my head), and I still need to get ahold of Batman! I think the gaming industry is trying to bankrupt me this year!

Also, am I the only person that really loved NFS: Undercover? My two favorite entries in this series are Most Wanted and Undercover...they allow me to jump in, play a bit, and then quit while actually accomplishing something, the controls seem actually responsive and arcade-ish at the same time, and they're just straight up fun to play. I don't understand the hate.

Review: Shadow Complex (XBLA)

Aug 17th 2009 5:44PM (Joystiq)
@Jrinswand "I've noticed that everything that Orson Scott Card does that isn't somehow related to Ender (and his Game) is underwhelming."

I disagree, but I'm a self-proclaimed OSC fanboy, so I guess take it for what it's worth. I've had a copy of Empire for quite awhile now and I thought it was a great read. I'd also recommend "The Worthing Saga" (which is a bit older) and a few months ago finished reading "Invasive Procedure" which Card may not have written, but was a big part of (it was based off of one of his original short stories). They may not be as "deep" as the Ender Saga books, but they read well and kept me entertained.

I was hoping Card's hand would've been heavier with this than it was with Advent Children (he had been brought in to that towards the end of development) so that the storyline would've been a heavier piece, but I have yet to hear a truely negative review of this game, so I'll have to check it out (and pray I don't get burned like I did with Advent Children).

Poll: What do you think of the rumored PS3 Slim?

Aug 17th 2009 9:05AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I know most people don't care about the size of their PS3. Sony slims it down because it can, and maybe it removes some costs...who knows.

What will really make a "PS3 Slim" newsworthy is if it comes with a lower price point (or drives down the price point of the current models) and whether or not it has backwards compatibility.

If BC is present, I may be buying a second PS3. There are a ton of PS2 games I missed out on since the XBox had better online with Live last gen, and I don't have room in my cabinet for another system. If the PS3 doesn't play it, I'm not playing it. I'd love to have a second system for another part of the house as well, so this would be a wonderful solution, especially since the PS3 offers "game sharing" on some of the downloadable titles.

I also agree that I'd love to see more people with a PS3, but the current price point prevents that. All of my friends have a 360, so when I tell them about awesome games like Fat Princess, I know it doesn't matter because they can't play them. Get a lower entry point and more people will be able to pick up a PS3. More PS3s mean more games/accessories sold, more downloaded titles purchased, etc. You may not make as much initial profit on each console sale with a lower price point, but your residual sales will bloom...especially with the stellar line of titles you have available now that aren't available on other systems (Resistance, Uncharted, Killzone, Infamous, Ratchet and Clank...and that's before we get to PSN titles). The profitability option is there, you just have to capitalize on it.

I know chances are good the slim PS3 will come out at the same price point as current models, and Sony for whatever reason thinks that BC "isn't something people are interested in" (idiots) but it'd be nice to think that Sony is actually LISTENING TO ITS CUSTOMERS and attempting to deliver A PRODUCT PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT (and can afford) TO BUY. That's all I'm hoping for...not a "we made it small because it's cute!" approach.

Titan Studios says Fat Princess fixes are on the way [update]

I still have not been able to connect to a single online game. And let me tell you how annoying it is to go back to the title screen instead of the hopper after a failed connection: SO INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. F'N A COTTON!

Even if I try to host a game, no one ever shows up. It gets old playing against the bots, especially because they are the dumbest things on the planet...they don't even do anything when you ask for help! Argh!

And no, I don't have ANY problems with online gaming with ANY other game, whether it's on PS3 or XBox 360. If I have to change my network settings because someone didn't program their game correctly, I'm going to be pretty pissed (because it's annoying having to mess with that s*** all the time).

This game looks like so much fun...I just wish I could play it the way it was intended!

Engadget HD's recession antidote: win a Netgear MoCA Coax-Ethernet adapter

Jul 29th 2009 8:58PM (Engadget HD)
The main problem with this is, of course, cost. Many companies would love to show that they are the king of energy conservation, but to make things more conservative than they are is very expensive. This makes the products more expensive to the consumer, and then the consumer is less likely to purchase them (especially in our curent economy.) If the consumer doesn't purchase the product, the business doesn't profit, and folds. (Or restructures, or has massive layoffs, or something else not horribly pleasant.)

Also, while it may create a new industry, it would close numerous others that are currently in business. Many of these have been around quite awhile, and either support a large part of our society's retirement funds, or provide employment for large parts of our communities. We are then burdened with trying to find new jobs for the displaced workers and caring for those that lost their pensions, health care, etc. And what happens if this new industry doesn't hold out, or isn't as large as the previous industries? We're hosed.

And while it will definitely affect the lower and middle classes, it is more likely to impact them negatively due to the increased initial costs of everything from energy consuming products such as appliances, entertainment devices, etc., it will also most likely be more expensive for these to run (a new industry is going to have tons of upstart costs which will be passed on to the consumer) and a new energy source is unlikely to be cheaper to manufacture (otherwise we'd probably have one already!)

Great thinking in theory, but if it were that easy and there were no downsides, it probably would have happened already.
