PSA: Original Xbox games' DLC already offline

Feb 10th 2010 5:45PM (Joystiq)
They announced around Christmas that Spies vs Mercs is not going to be in Conviction because it didn't mesh with their new "last known position" and "mark and execute" gimmicks. And now with the Live servers going down, Spies vs Mercs will be killed forever.

TGS 2009: Hands-on: Okamiden

Sep 25th 2009 6:17PM (Joystiq)
I'd say you did the right thing not finishing it. I wish someone had warned me to stop playing after the first final boss. After that it just starts to meander and the very end is just ridiculous and ruins the rest of the game if you pay attention to it.

Is your touch-screen yellow?

Jan 20th 2007 3:20PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I sent mine into Nintendo to fix my screen and my hinge (hinge was cracked as usual and the screen was swollen and incredibly squishy which took away any precision). When I got it back, the new screen was super yellow. I guess someone else sent theirs back for the really yellow screen and they gave it to me instead. I can't send it back though because it would cost $70 this time. If the screens are doing something different it's usually okay, but if they're showing a continuous picture it looks awful. Also a lot of games change screens by fading to white and back on both screens and that looks pretty bad too.

Jackson talks about Halo film

Sep 18th 2006 7:59PM (Joystiq)
Can anyone actually explain the point behind making a Halo movie? I enjoy the Halo games and I'm glad Peter Jackson is stepping up to make a videogame movie that doesn't suck, but really what does Halo have that's going to make a good movie? It already has the most generic plot you can get (human space military fights alien bugs) and sports a main character with the personality (and aerodynamics) of a brick. They're going to have to try to pull as much focus as possible off of Master Chief to make it interesting, but at least Cortana will be fun and Sarge will be hilarious.

How to set the alarm on your DS -- info you could care less about

Sep 7th 2006 12:41AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I don't use my DS as my alarm everyday but it was very handy when I was backpacking around Japan. I had it with me all day to use the Japanese dictionary "game" (when on trains I'd sit there writing in kanji on signs I didn't know to learn new words). Then I'd use the DS's alarm every morning. The dictionary game even has its own separate alarm.

Also it seems like a lot of people don't realize you can put the DS to sleep and the alarm stays on. You don't have to worry about your battery or screen; the screen is off and the battery will last weeks asleep. Also I agree it's a nice alarm since it starts quiet and then ramps up.

Zombies, Aliens, or Nazis? Designing the perfect game enemy.

Sep 2nd 2006 12:49PM (Joystiq)
Yes! Sander Scamper, sometimes I forget there are other people who've played Star Control II. And yet everyone should play it. The Ur-Quan were a great perversion on the typical videogame enemy. They seemed to just be anti-human, ugly, killing-machines, but they're backstory is incredible and you really can't blame them for what they're doing. By the way, if anyone's interested in playing the game, the creators rebuilt it open source and you can get it here http://sc2.sourceforge.net/
