Sony: PS3 disc drive errors not a firmware issue
Oct 5th 2009 11:13PM (Joystiq)But seriously, what ISN'T built like sh*t anymore? You could toss a SNES out the window and it would still work. You can't even sneeze around these modern consoles without them getting a ring or a disc error or a brick or whatever. It doesn't seem like thicker shockproof plastic casing would be that much more expensive, game companies are just cheap bastards. Besides, they're already making the consoles at a loss anyway (software = chief profit bringer for game manufacturers), why not just say "screw it" and design a console that is built right from the get-go? Nintendo ALMOST had it right with the Wii, but it's still a flimsy console when you consider things like the port doors, the power/reset buttons, etc...
Oh well, Sony is one of those companies that I curse at one day, then go buy their newest 16gb Net Walkman the next. After you had a couple of Sonys, you know what you're in for.

Oct 5th 2009 1:36PM (Joystiq)Most species of duck have an average maximum altitude of 836 meters. Quick conversion and rounding tells us this is 91 yards. According to Crimson Trace, a laser sight manufacturer who uses the most powerful laser diode allowed by US law, in ideal morning sunlight conditions (ducks usually aren't out at night) conditions the laser can be seen for 15 yards. Even if that laser somehow refracted through a cloud and telescopically increased it's distance, it still does nothing for the range of your shotgun. But let's assume for some reason they were closer, in a more accurate representation of a hunting scenario. You would still have to be very good to not only hold the "dot" on the duck in mid-air for a long enough time to get a good shot without a scope, but you would risk scaring the duck, ultra-bright high intensity high-focus lights aren't exactly a predominant fixture in most nature enviroments.
So yeah, stupid argument is stupid, end of story. And don't even start with the "grenade launcher" thing, that's a typical "gamer who doesn't know anything about real weapons" kind of reaction. Real life isn't Halo.
