Halo: Reach beta's live-action short makes its online debut

Apr 28th 2010 2:13AM (Joystiq)
The Spartan II's were the ones that were kidnapped at the ages of 6 and 7, and can barely remember them at all. The Spartan III's were made more of volunteers who were mostly orphaned by the human-covenant war. People that had nothing to lose, so they signed their life away with the promise of taking a shit load of covenant with them when they died. Very different origins.

Roger Ebert's latest column posits 'games can never be art'

Apr 17th 2010 9:46PM (Joystiq)
@Sonos

First of all, he does not argue that Flower isn't art on a point by point basis. He spends the entire "flower" part of his article asking what the game even is, but then assuming it isn't art anyway. He hasn't played any of these games.

"is the game scored? ... Do you win if you're the first to find the balance between the urban and the natural? Can you control the flower? Does the game know what the ideal balance is?"

That isn't refuting anything that she said. Ebert even says it's pointless to try to define art. That it's basically a matter of taste. The point is that games are evolving, and evolving quickly. Maybe Bioshock did have themes that have been in thousands of movies and books. But movies have about a hundred years on video games while the written word has several thousand.

The argument about "what is art" is ridiculous in it of itself, mainly because every time someone finds a definition for art that they like, someone else finds exceptions to that definition. It's nothing but ego stroking. Just a matter of "what i like is better than what you like," and it's all pointless.

Yes, more people should have read the article before posting, but that's no reason to claim that they are dumb and unworthy to debate with "intellectuals" like yourself, sir.

Even though we've just established that defining art is a futile endeavor, i'm curious as to what YOUR definition of art is.

Reuters: Video games are for adults, too

Jan 22nd 2010 8:50PM (Joystiq)
Even though it's common knowledge to us gamers that video games are made for adult audiences, there are thousands upon thousands of idiots out there who don't seem to understand this, so while it seems pointless and redundant to us, I'm glad there will be another handful of idiots educated (sort of) by this article.

Bungie says Halo: Reach is like Titanic

They could totally use the same song. It's not like that song wouldn't exist in the year 2552! it would just be an Extreme Oldie.

I could see a female A.I. lip syncing while playing that song over a ships speakers while it's plummeting to the surface.

My preferred gaming attire is whatever i'm wearing when i get home from school/work.

I can't waste precious seconds changing into something more comfortable! Kinda sucks when i come home wearing a suit of armor though. The narrow slit in the helmet makes it pretty hard to see what i'm doing.

Ozzy would definitely win. He'd just bite everyone's heads off!

I'm sure that reference has been made a couple hundred times in these comments, but oh well.
