First-Person Final Cut Pro X, Day One: Completely at Sea

Jul 2nd 2011 2:42PM (TUAW.com)
Have to agree about this guy being an idiot. There are very simple ways of doing everything he described (I.e. Press D to overwrite, press t for trim controls (roll and ripple edits), subclipping is now done through keywords, etc). Yeah, this program is missing a few key features(XML and multicam hurt, but they'll be added), but it's just not true that it's an inaccurate editor. I was able to cut together a 22 min sitcom with FCPX, and there was a learning curve like with any program, but i was able to achieve precise maneuvers by the end.

Try using iMovie. I hate it. It's too streamlined and imprecise for me. FCPX is not that at all.

Actually learn a program before you declare it too hard to use.

MTV spent big for The Beatles, slowly backing away from peripheral business

Aug 31st 2009 12:54PM (Joystiq)
Just an anecdote, but worth noting:

I'm 22, and I've been obsessed with the Beatles for years. And while not all of my friends are not as huge fans as me, I definitely know a lot of people my age and a few years younger than me who love the Beatles and are interested in this game because of that.

My dad, who's in his 50s, bought his first plastic instrument a couple of months ago, despite not having Rock Band or Guitar Hero. He bought it in preparation of The Beatles: Rock Band. Even though he enjoys many of the bands in both RB and GH, he never would consider picking those up, as rhythm games aren't really his thing. But The Beatles: RB became a day one purchase for him.

Saying "Oh, but kids don't know about the Beatles" isn't exactly the best argument against this game. The Beatles, despite whatever you think about them, do have a WIDE reach and a diverse audience (at least in terms of age range). I think that ultimately, this game will pay off for MTV just because of that.

The Beatles: Rock Band execs say Yoko Ono 'gave the designers hell' [update]

Aug 15th 2009 10:14PM (Joystiq)
Harmonix clarified the "erroneous depictions" in the Wired article on their forums yesterday.

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157639

It mentions how she was actually helpful to the creative process, and continues to say:

"We were then, and are now, tremendously grateful that she gave us the gift of her attention. We are devastated that Mrs. Lennon's visit, a high point of the two-year development process for The Beatles: Rock Band, has been mischaracterized by some in the press. Bottom line: Mrs. Lennon brought our team together at a critical time, in a lovely way, and the game as published is far better because of her input all along - and especially from that day"

Just figured I might put that out there.
