"it does encroach upon the boundaries"

Officer: "Do you know why I pulled you over?"
Driver: "Not really, I was only going 63."
Officer: "The posted speed is 65 and you were encroaching that limit."
Driver: "Why don't you just make the speed limit 62?"
Officer: "You fix'n to get tazed, Boy?"

5 new features we want to see in Windows 8 Media Center

"A Recorded TV buffer"
Yes yes yes! If I hit record, all of the buffered video should come with it. I have been burnt by this so many times.
Also the buffer length should be dynamic. As long as I have the space, keep that buffer for as long as possible. I should be able to pause a live show for hours.

How about a "Return to where I left off";
If I'm watching a live sporting event, I rewind to watch a good play. I want a button to bring me back to where I rewound from. I can jump forward to "live" time, but then I shoot by all that stuff that happened while I was rewinding and watching that play. Just being me back to the farthest point forwarding in the recoding that I was at. Does that make sense?

Also if I have 4 tuners let me watch all 4 of them multiplexed on screen at once.

Ok I'm done now.

Xbox 360 USB data storage announced, coming April 6

I wonder if we can trick it into working with the HSTi Media Stick (http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/10/hsti-wireless-media-stick-hands-on/) and share my saves with both my Xbox's over the network without having to swap a memory card back an forth.

Probably not.

Netflix streaming in HD on the PC expected this year

What about extender support?
It's a lost cause trying to explain to my wife how to exit MCE to the XBox dashboard, plug the memory card in, login in my profile, and find the netflix icon among the mess of advertisements that is the NXE.

A CableCARD replacement is due by December 2012, bandaids by this Fall

Mar 18th 2010 9:22AM (Engadget HD)
@astrocramp
I did the exact same thing. The tuner in my TV hasn't been used since they got it working (which took about 5 or 6 visits from a cable guy). Just waiting for my Ceton card (which is May now...grrrrr.)

One of the cable guys was actually friendly and told me all they do is read the CableCARD ID and hardware ID of the TV to the "central office". There is no other troubleshooting they can do other than trying another CableCARD.

End users SHOULD be able to call up and give them those numbers themselves.

Hulu's subscription service might run $5 for access to select shows

For some reason I read your post as "Battletoads of Fail".
I got really excited about a new Saturday morning cartoon for a second there. It must be early.

HDHomeRun developing a dual CableCARD network tuner for $249

Jan 7th 2010 9:47AM (Engadget)
@jmcguire525
Agreed. For my set up two of these would be preferred over one Ceton 4 tuner card. And for only $100 more.
Of course you would need two CableCARDs, around here Comcast gives the first free but each additional is $3 a month.

Plus if Microsoft opens up 6 tuners for retail Win 7 (or a hack is available), then it would only be $249 for an additional two tuners rather than having to buy a whole new Ceton card and sell the 4 tuner on EBay.

TiVo, Sony and others to FCC: 'gateways' should replace CableCARD

Dec 23rd 2009 4:30PM (Engadget HD)
@xtasi
They are required to install a CableCARD if you request it. But I had multiple technicians come to the house to get my CableCARD working and everyone of them said something along the lines of "Oh god, these things never work." One actually said "Why would anyone ever not get a box.", right as I was standing there.

Jokes on them though, I just downgraded to basic cable rather than pay for a digital package and their crap ass settop box with a circa 1990 UI. And I'm all the happier for it. Still get the network channels in HD and all the important cable channels in analog.

Why you don't have freedom of speech in WoW

Blizzard has a public forum?

I don't know about you but Blizzard makes me log in to my account whenever I want to post.

And when I go to set up said account I have to agree to the "Terms of Service", which is one of the main sticking points of this article.

Are CableCARD tuners for Media Center sold out everywhere?

Dec 10th 2009 10:00AM (Engadget HD)
@Brian
If they can get those cards out and have enough supply to meet the demands. Ceton is poised to rake in a lot of cash. But I share your doubts.

The sad part for the cable companies is that this whole lackluster CableCARD support has just made me realize how much I don't need those premium HD channels. I can live just fine with my basic unencrypted HD channels. With Netflix and Hulu, I have more than enough entertainment to fill my free time.
