Confused school district fires sysadmin for running SETI@home: 'As an educational institution we do not support the search for E.T.'

Dec 2nd 2009 4:19PM (Engadget)
Dammit why can't I put a "less than" symbol in my posts.
Ah forget it.

Confused school district fires sysadmin for running SETI@home: 'As an educational institution we do not support the search for E.T.'

Dec 2nd 2009 4:13PM (Engadget)
That is true, but in this case the superintendent said they "certainly would have supported cancer research". Which to me says that the draw on electricity and resources would have been fine, as long as the research was for something "important". I bet you E.T. knows the cure for cancer, if only there were some why to find him...

Superintendent - "School computers are for school related work only!!"

Fring brings one-way video calling to the iPhone

Dec 1st 2009 1:57PM (Engadget)
"as this one doesn't support calls on 3G"

Shouldn't that read:
"as this 3G network doesn't support video calls."

Dutch hacker seeks out jailbroken iPhones for fame and fortune

Nov 4th 2009 8:50AM (Engadget)
@Aaron via @silenceikillyou

Or they would have been smart enough to change the root and mobile passwords.

Every jailbreaker with half a brain has known about this "security hole" sine 1.0. Quick Google turns up this post from 2007 (http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2166).

So this guy isn't saying anything new. He's just a douche.

TomTom's iPhone car kit gets taken for a stationary test drive

Oct 7th 2009 9:03AM (Engadget)
Amen.

The need to tear my iSkin off every time I want to to use the mount would completely eliminate any convenience it adds.
I'm not saying TomTom has to design it to fit every case on the market, but at least make it a bit adjustable.

Sony announces PS3 firmware 3.0, European PlayStation Video Store, Digital Reader comics viewer

Aug 18th 2009 2:28PM (Engadget)
Well the PS3 already supports M2TS files, which you can just drag and drop directly form the BluRay disc (provided you have AnyDVD). So piracy can't be the reason for the lack of MKV support.

Plus most MKV's can be remuxed right into an M2TS. (I recommend that format whenever possible.)

It's so great to hit the play button and not have to skip though 15min of unwanted previews, disclaimers, and useless menu transitions. Plus your discs never end up scratched or in the wrong box, 'cause they just sit on the shelf.

Impressions: Aliens Vs Predator

Aug 13th 2009 9:15PM (Joystiq)
"It wouldn't be much fun if there were 15 aliens and one human, for example."

But 15 humans and one alien would be a cool match, providing they jack up the alien player's stats accordingly.

Cataclysm races leaked

Aug 10th 2009 6:31PM (WoW)
I'm thinking these two races will be cross-faction races.

You'll still be stuck with the faction you choose, but your Worg or Goblin could be either Alliance or Horde.

Just a guess.
