How Self-Aware is Adam Sandler?

Jul 29th 2009 11:42AM (Cinematical)
Man, I love the internet.

Aaaaanyway, I'd agree with one of your claims, that he knows he makes god-awful movies and just doesn't care. I have to say, however, that I don't think that makes him worse than a pampered, delusional movie star.

He makes "bad" products, yes; but the audiences keep coming back. Whose fault is that? For god's sake, G-Force was the top-grossing movie this past weekend - is that a comment on the filmmakers, or the slack-jawed audiences that pay for such drivel?

Review: 500 Days of Summer

Jul 17th 2009 2:20PM (Cinematical)
I was lucky enough to go see a preview screening a month ago, and I have to say that it's the most refreshing "romantic comedy" I've ever seen. But it's not really a rom-com. It's the story of a relationship, as told through the myopic lens of memory and emotions. It's honest, at times it's brutally awkward (his on-screen mis-steps with Summer will make anyone flash back to their own weaker moments), and it made me gasp exactly once. Good stuff.

Rescue Me: Mickey

Jun 17th 2009 6:00PM (AOL TV)
I think the Mickey scene works, and it works big. The stage was set already - Tommy's performance at the AA meeting was just the prelude. His knee-jerk reflex to sabotage his own life just to spite others and their stupid opinions is one of the driving forces of the show, episode to episode.

Cinematical Seven: Great Time Travel Movies

Holy cow! No Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? That has to be one of the best "accurate" time travel movies ever made!

Lost: Some Like it Hoth

Okay, so we have the lessons on Anubis and Egyptian history on the blackboard, we have the hieroglyphics in the temple, the big statue whose details we still can't see, and Richard, who kind of looks like a pharoah.

How much you want to bet that Horace is actually spelled "Horus"?

Amazing Race vs. Survivor: Why one works and the other doesn't

Mar 24th 2009 7:32PM (AOL TV)
Oh yeah. Did the same thing with Real World.

There are some concepts that, when introduced, are fleshed out as much as they're gonna get. You can spot 'em a mile away. My two cents, that's all.

Amazing Race vs. Survivor: Why one works and the other doesn't

I don't think she missed the point at all. The article is about which is a more entertaining show, which she even outlined for you. Seeing who survives out of those yahoos may be "interesting", but it doesn't make for a good show anymore. Personally, I stopped watching after the first season.

The Title Sequences That Stick

Too true. It perfectly set the tone for the rest of the movie, signifying the thematic shift from ladies' man to actual counterintelligence agent.

The Title Sequences That Stick

Casino Royale from a couple of years ago. Really imaginative opening sequence and quite visually distinctive. The best part, for me, was how the lyrics of the song are a tongue-in-cheek recap of the James Bond mystique.

Let's Talk About 'S. Darko'

Feb 19th 2009 5:57PM (Cinematical)
Let's not forget one of the most important aspects of Donnie Darko - its set in the 80's. And the 80's, as we all know, rule.
