Indie Games Winter Uprising kicks off today with 'Epic Dungeon'

Dec 1st 2010 12:38PM (Joystiq)
It's gonna be a great 7 days! Really looking forward to Crossfire 2 and Soulcaster 2. Hypership is awesome too but I think this is a just an update??

Anyway...some great games and some crazy low prices. Definitely worth your money plus you're supporting some great devs.

In a indie sea of massagers and avatar fluff, these are the gems.

Xbox Live Indie Games moved to 'Specialty Shops' on new Dashboard, devs not happy

As someone that checks out A LOT of the Indie games (and buys many), I don't understand why all the games aren't grouped together.

What's so special about Indie games? Games is games is games.

If they were concerned about all the crapware that does end up in the Indie list, do something about THAT PROBLEM. The solution to poor games is not hiding them.

Pac-Man CE DX trailer is madness

Any release date on this yet? Can't wait for this one.

Vanquish review: Smokin'

Oct 20th 2010 12:24PM (Joystiq)
Good to hear because I had high hopes for this game. The demo is pretty tough, frankly, but I keep playing it because it's just pure action.

It has a real arcade feel, like it's something I'd play on a huge cabinet back in the day. I can dig it. Let's just hope it has some replay value in the long run, otherwise it'll be a bargain purchase.

OutRun Online Arcade removed from PSN; XBLA version coming down Dec. 2011

Oct 13th 2010 12:22PM (Joystiq)
This is a game I'm still playing trying to unlock some achievements. I just love arcade racing and this game is a true challenge. Glad I got it and hope it doesn't magically stop playing. Even if the leaderboards and online play goes away, that's fine with me, I just like playing.

I'm not sure what the price is now, but if you enjoy unrealistic arcade racing, get this one before it disappears.

Now Playing: September 13-19, 2010

Lots of little hits coming out this week, me thinks. Space Invaders was totally off my radar. I knew it was coming but there hasn't been much talk about it. Totally gonna scoop that one up. Not a bad RB release week either...AND Tower Bloxx is a decent game and definitely worth the 5 beans. Good stuff.

Vanquish demo coming August 31 to PS3, 360

I hope this game is as good in reality as it already is in my head.

Review: Mafia 2

Aug 23rd 2010 12:54PM (Joystiq)
I played the demo and really enjoyed it, and I think I enjoyed it *because* of it's linear-ness. It played well, looked good, and is on my "might buy" list. The whole open world thing has gotten way out of hand, if you ask me.

I'm here to play a game and accomplish goals, so please, just tell me what and where those goals are and I'm good. I'm just waiting for the open world revolt and a return to more linear games. There's going to be a point where nobody wants to take the time/effort of open world games - I'm already there, actually.

Just because a game has rules, boundaries, and is clearly labeled doesn't mean the game has to suck. If you tell me "just do what you want," I'll end up doing nothing. Open world games end up becoming nothing but a bunch of mini-games, which you can get anywhere.

The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Retrofit: Overload

Aug 4th 2010 12:59PM (Joystiq)
This is a great little game and deceivingly challenging once you get in a little deep. There are a lot of gems in the Indie section that usually $5 and under. I probably play those more than non-Indies, honestly. They're cheap and they're pick-up-and-play, which I love. I get my 10 minute fill and I'm out.

Radiangames' "Crossfire" is another Indie one that's worth the beans. A very fast arcade shooter.

Video walkthrough: Destination Arcade

Jul 22nd 2010 12:38PM (Joystiq)
Destination Arcade is horrible for browsing games. I honestly don't know what makes the current method so complicated. It works great. You click Marketplace, Arcade, done. How hard is that?

I know I check every week to see what's new and there's a handy "New Arrivals" list, so it's easy. I get there is 3 moves. Destination Arcade had be swapping listings, squinting at tiny artwork, and just being outright confusing. Plus, it's just not sexy.

If this is a preview at a future UI update for the system then we're all in store for some major frustration.

I already deleted DA from my list...which is another thing...why was DA listed as a "game" that I have to launch. Poor execution all around on this one.
