@plyx This convo turned on the inevitable comparison of sales between the 3DS and the Vita. Go look at the second post in this thread.

Once that dropped outside interest was also inevitable. That the comparison was somehow linked to "expectations" as if expectations are some uniform unit of measure and so the 3DS selling below it's expectation and the Vita exceeding Sony's mean something is ludicrous.

Taking hypothetical numbers here....if Sony expected to sell 5 Vitas and they sold 50 then they blew their expectations out of the water. Coming off the DS, if Nintendo expected to move 20 million and sold 10 million then they tragically undersold....

And yet I know which one is probably better off.

If we are going to wring our hands asking how "funny how much effort some people will put into trying to degrade something they either don't want or can't have", then let's at least apply that equally no?

@Fluttersword Well Capcom and Namco have done it before, and it might make sense given the Mega Man and Pac-Man bonus characters in the Street Fighter X Tekken game.

@DjiegoMoz Not that EVERY thread has to involve this bare comparison, but the fact that one underperformed to expectations and the other exceeded them would only be a valid measure of anything if those expectations were at all related.

Michael Jordan could underperform and the average YMCA schlub could blow his expectations out of the water, but I have a good idea who I'd bet on in a pickup game.

Wow. Should have expected this, but man can't wait. Though...I've kinda become attached to various classes. I kinda hate them constantly changing.

@commonperson Your prediction of Nintendo pulling a Sega in a decade is kinda uncalled for ESPECIALLY for the reasons cited. The respective losses by their two main competitors over the years, puts such a scary number into perspective, and Nintendo is sitting on a huge warchest of many billions from their years selling a quarter billion units (almost all of them at a profit) over the last 8 years. And of course the effects of a strong yen can't just be ignored because their effects aren't completely understood by the layperson.

And while you profess not wanting them to fail, I think you do. You said yourself you're a lapsed fan, so their current selection is not your cup o tea. Seems reasonable you want what you once had whatever that means and would rather the modern N disappear (and maybe make 3rd party games so you can stick with your Xbox or PS).

@Del I suppose it was inevitable. Never thought he was long for the world sitting on top of one of the more obvious targets for destruction (outside obvious military targets, but seems the Reapers don't particularly respect that and are going for the population centers anyways).
