I'd call Half Life 2's Combine the perfect enemy. They're at once familiar, with the use of humans and modified humans in their forces, and entirely alien. You hate the Combine because it has not only invaded the Earth, destroyed its environment and subjugated its people, but also because it has managed to turn a good portion of those people against their own race — and turn others into barely-human Stalkers.
