Hands-on: Dead to Rights Retribution

Apr 13th 2010 3:28PM (Joystiq)
Man, that is refreshing to read a preview that just cuts the shit and says "You know what? This game hasn't reached its potential and it's really not going to be that great." I freakin' APPLAUD that. I am so tired of reading "We'll see how the gameplay shapes up..." and "We're cautiously optimistic that (insert developer) can shore things up before launch".

Tell it like it T-I-Is.

So that's how you get around copyright issues now, you call it art? Ah. Got it.

Impressions: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Apr 4th 2010 12:09AM (Joystiq)
A sandbox Spider-Man game requires a game that takes place entirely in New York, with hundreds of random city events (possibly via ongoing DLC to generate interest and $$$), bosses that also appear randomly and fought within the city and buildings, destructible environments, a rudimentary monetary system that incorporates Peter Parker's photography, the ability to be change between Peter and Spider-Man at will to finally give players the feeling of changing into a superhero, battle-damaged costume, a randomly generated quip (from hundreds) which allows Spider-Man to taunt his foes causing them to get angrier and less focused (which has ALWAYS been his secret weapon). The game would also feature 8-16 multiplayer gaming with a few Spider-Men (Spidey, Ben Reilly, Spider-Girl, Venom etc) versus boss characters - let loose in New York.

I would think nothing of spending $5 or $10 a month on a Spider-Man game that allowed me to tackle different events such as robberies, new bosses etc.

Any developers want to let me design the next game? I promise you, it will be the BEST superhero game ever made and I won't stop until it's finished. Until then, keep making garbage like Shattered Dimensions. Yes my idea(s) would take a team of a hundred + and a couple of years. But do you want the best Spider-Man game ever made, that generates cash through DLC events or lose your shirts on a game like Shattered Dimensions?

GameStop enjoys $9.08 billion in sales in FY2009, $377 million profit

Unfortunately this proves that the service will only get worse. The Gamestop experience is completely different depending on which one you go to, which means their training is at best inconsistent and at worst non-existent. I don't mean in regards to personality, which is going to be different, but in terms of overall knowledge. As a GS employee it is your job to stay completely on top of the industry. If I'm having to inform you that a game has been delayed, or your company has a particular pre-order bonus, that's bushleague. In this day and age there is no reason why your employees should be uninformed as to the products in your store. The internet is just a click away.

GameStop still evaluating customer 'loyalty opportunity' program

The GS employees at the newly titled Gamestop (used to be EB of course) near me are the most douchiest personality-less slowtards I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. They make the human-pincussions over at HMV look positively personable. The worst ones are the females too. There's some nerd chick there dripping with nerditude that makes me want to punch her square in the face. Then there's some power-lesbo manager at another GS that talks too loud and knows F all about anything, but attempts to sound like she's on top of everything - but she knows she's an imposter and figures talking louder makes her appear more knowledgeable. Then there's the fat sloppy couch-sloths who only know World at Warcraft and if you purchase or ask about anything that isn't an MMO they muster up all of their strength to sneer in your general direction. I cannot stand that place and would rather ask the crypt-keeper at Wal-Mart to shuffle on over and open the videogame sarcophagus then deal with GS.

You're selling that used game for $5 off new MSRP, that I just saw you give a kid $15 bucks for? I don't think so nerd-chick. WHAMMO!

Snap Judgment: Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver

Mar 18th 2010 2:36PM (Joystiq)
I have never understood the appeal of this game and I won't bother trying to pretend to. Looks boring to me. That being said, my son loves Pokemon and i bought this for him on one day. He thought the pokewalker was a very cool idea as well. I was going to disown him but then he thought Just Cause 2 was the coolest thing, so there's hope.

GDC: Designing Assassin's Creed 2 (or: Dodging a curveball from upper management)

Mar 17th 2010 12:50PM (Joystiq)
I played the original AC to about half way and gave up due to boredom and repetition. I bought AC2 under the assumption the repetitive nature of the game was gone, simply due to everyone (reviews, gamers etc) saying "AC2 Obliterates the Original!" and "Fixes the Problems" but the first five hours of AC2 were rife with the same problems the first game had. Other people have said "Just wait, it gets better!" but to me, it seems counter-productive to start off a game with the same formula that critics and gamers knocked the first time around. in other words if I hated the repetition from the first game, filling the first few hours of the game with the same boring gameplay is NOT the way to get me excited about playing further, no matter how many people say it gets better. I haven't played it since. I've had more fun with the Just Cause 2 demo than I did with AC and AC2 combined.

Reggie: Nintendo not 'thinking seriously' about next console yet

Mar 10th 2010 2:13PM (Joystiq)
Oh man, I cannot WAIT for a new Nintendo system! Think of all of those great games: Ninjabreadman 2 and every other piece of crap Nintendo third party licenses shit out.

I have a new theory and it makes sense if you think about it. Most of the third party games you see in the bargain bins at various stores like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Zellers etc are created NOT to recoup losses for development time and quality control, of which these elements are non-existent. The way these third party companies make money, is they have a hidden corporation that makes Bargain Bins and sells them at great profit to said retail outlets to hold their crappy games.

Not so stupid, am I?

Ubisoft DRM authentification server is down, Assassin's Creed 2 unplayable

Mar 8th 2010 9:37AM (Joystiq)
I only wish my PS3 was hooked up to Ubisoft's servers so I wouldn't have been able to play AC2. But it wasn't MY fault that I bought it. I purchased it under the FALSE pretenses that the boring and repetitive missions had all been eradicated. I played the game for over 5 hours and this wasn't the case. In fact I found it quite odd that a sequel to a game that was so accurately and fairly (imo) harangued for it's boring and repetitive missions would actually start out with hours of boring and repetitive missions. ?¿ ? Not a good way to hook the audience. Trading that POS in immediately.

Nintendo's Dunaway says DS has 'room to grow' in US market

Mar 5th 2010 12:49PM (Joystiq)
Hmmm...look at the microphone. A little phallic innuendo perhaps? Then read her comments. "Units"..."Room to grow..." "Penetration". "One in four". "Two in one".

Not only that but she's holding the DS with the Klingon hand signal for "three way".

A little adult for a child's toy, no?
