Twenty years on: gaming now and then

Mar 23rd 2006 1:50PM (Joystiq)
Ive been playing games since the sinclair zx81 and those that say things havent improved are to my mind crazy. Sure if you enjoy so simple games thats fine but there is no similarity in the way they play.

Im gonna raise a similar argument. Cars havent really improved in 20 years. sure they are faster have tons more buttons inside but i would prefer to have a ford cortina to the new mondeo anyday! HAHA

take racing games for instance you used to have full lock steering or no steering. you had trees that got closer in three blocks of zoom. and thats more recent that 20 years.

shootemups are true 3d with multiple weapons, massive expansive worlds with loads going on.

I find it hard to understand what people expect. We could actually have virtual reality headsets, we have the technology but nobody likes them all that much because we want it to be a game.

I love to play a bit of old school every now and then to remember the old days but i love even more to get back into the newer games like graw or burnout revenge or countless other amazing new games.

going back to the car argument, at least games have added dimensions and changed the whole way we play them but things like cars are still basically the same but i never see people saying cars havent moved on all that much.

the answer to your question number 10 is that you like simple games. there is nothing wrong with that I prefer old music but alot of the new music has moved on i just havent moved on with it.

I wish I prefered the older games because i would have all the emulators and save myself a fortune.

oh yea last thing. ONLINE PLAY!!!!!!!!!! think about it

Single player review - Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (Xbox 360)

I love xbox live all the way and virtually never play single player games but this game really hit the mark for me, I loved the single player campaign.

Not that im saying everyone should, just my opinion.

The Engadget Interview: Bill Gates (again!)

Jan 10th 2006 4:44AM (Engadget)
well actually yes his comments are accurate about apple, but it wasnt an insulting comment and he in no way said that microsoft have never done that it was just a response to the question.

I do think it is fair to say that the pc industry leverages from apple too. Firewire etc

Why would bill gates have an IPOD???? Ipods are great but because the primary support is for mp3 the sound is a bit naff compared to oggvorbis devices. he will have an iRiver with oggvorbis playback thats what I would have if i could afford it.

As a side note has anybody else noticed that their 360 got really hot the first few weeks but not after that? Both mine and my wifes 360 did this.

2005 Xbox 360 success

Dec 28th 2005 4:48AM (Joystiq)
simple question for everyone!

Which console ever showed its full potential with the first titles released?

I think PDZ, Call of duty 2 and PGR3 are all next gen stuff and its only the beginning. Remember the ps2 launch (crap) remember the dreamcast launch (crap) gamecube (luigis mansion anyone) Saturn (clockwork knight) I mean talk about over critical. I have over 50 people on my friends list on live with 360's and 1 had a problem that microsoft sorted in a day. I give the console 9/10 because things can always be improved but remember why the few problems are highlighted so much. its because everyone is on these forums bitching about the probs now, in the past like when the psone was launched there wasnt the chance to moan like this. I had 3 psones that didnt work and I had to put the last one that i got on its side to make it work. I still have very fond memories of that console.
