It just finally hit me. Peter wants a non-gamer to play the game because they probably haven't been following the hype he's been pushing on the game.
In other words, he oversold the game features once again and he's looking for people who aren't judging the game on what was promised to say that the game is still enjoyable in its own right.
What with Peter's criticism about the lip-synch, the dog going psycho and now this it's starting to sound like the game has been rushed out and he's trying to nip the coming bad press in the bud.
I was hoping for a game that at least hit the high 80's for an average review score. I now starting to think we're going to find a game that's notably inferior to the original.
I'm only two hours into the game myself and I have to say I'm having a different experience with the enemy behavior. The only people I've seen charge straight at me are the splicers with melee weapons (reasonably so).
I've seen the splicers with guns take cover, dodge my return fire and blow apart the turrets I hacked when the turrets turned on them.
The grenade lobbing splicers have generally stayed out of melee range whenever I've encountered them and the one time they got within melee range I learned the hard way that melee combat is not the best way to take them out.
Not saying you didn't have the experience you had but mine has been completely different and I'm playing on medium difficulty.
I'd rate the game in the 9's and I was hooked for good once I experienced the turrent demoltion incident mentioned above.
I was at a Best Buy this past Saturday that had 5 to 6 PS3's on display and available for purchase.
I would have walked out with one in my hand had the PS3 had more going for it at this moment than one well-received exclusive game. Once more games come out then it will have a better chance of ending up on my shelf.
At this time, there's simply nothing to justify dropping $600+ for the unit.
I agree with you on the 360 Live demo. After playing around with it for a few moments I was wondering how in the hell this game was getting such good press as everything seemed off.
I continued to hold out some hope that the finished game would justify the hype but it appears that's not going to be the case.
I had my doubts about Just Cause while playing the demo and the less than glowing reviews seem to validate that feeling.
Who cares about 200 side missions (racing missions in a game about regime change?) when the game is as broken as it appears to be. Of course, since it appears that the main story can be beat in 5 to 6 hours I guess the developers felt they had to pad the content to justify the price.
Having had no problem enjoying any other 360 games using my SDTV I bought this one and was initially put off by the text. As time went on in the game I was able to rely on context to figure out most of the dialog and item descriptions and mission objectives.
That said, letting something this obvious slip by is still sloppy work on the part of the game designer.
As for gamers who are not being ready to "enter into the next generation", Microsoft could have easily made the 360 totally dependent on HDTV use. The fact that they didn't indicates they knew that doing so would greatly reduce their competitive advantage in terms of getting a jump on Wii and PS3.
While it would be nice to see the games at this time in all their HD glory I'm content to hold off on purchasing a HDTV as long as the majority of games don't make it an absolute requirement.
Another "blame everyone but myself" type. Me and my friends all had video game systems and yet we found the time to remove our butts away from the TV and get exercise.
This is the reason I bought a 360 but I'll withhold any real excitment until the game is released and reviewed.
This particular series (Elder Scrolls) has been notorious for being buggy and there still seems to be significant problems with frame rates and other issues based on previews I've read in the last week or so.
