PS3 TV tuner/DVR out in Japan in March

Jan 14th 2010 7:28PM (Joystiq)
Ok

Play TV - Any recordings over 4GB cannot be removed from the hard drive ( a limitation of the FAT format used on the ps3) so anyone thinking that you can record for family/keep for prosperity is out of luck.

Secondly do not import becuase the tuning frequency tables will only be available for regions that sony has tested and intends to support. I am in Austrlia and I imported PlayTV a full year before it launched in Australia. THe tuning frequencies for AUST were already included bar one channel.

DVB-T is AU/Europe format and is both HD (1080i 5.1 DD+ and SD)

This device may be interesting, if not only for the external drive depending on its format.

Getting this stateside would be costly for Sony. In australia we only have one cable provider (which isnt that popular and does not have a significant market share) and 5 networks (including one government run) so negotiating a release in this territory was very simple.

360 hits 700K down under, Microsoft aiming for a million

Let me assure you Paul, that New Zealand is not considered 'Down Under" by either Australians or New Zealand. They are two completely different countries.

And a Kiwi would not like to be considered as someone from "Down Under". They have their own, very proud indigenous history from South Pacific islands (Samoa Tonga etc) plus British colonization.
